***** Katherine smiled in understanding when Edward said if it was only that easy. She knew that hadn't been her best idea but she figured it was worth a shot. At that moment they just needed any ideas to help get Edward through this. All she wanted was to see Edward happy and at his comment at how she would eventually forget him she had to smile. If Bella only saw the looks then she would probably forget Edward in time but it had been nearly a century before Katherine had found out Edward was alive like her and during that time she had thought about him nearly every day. It was why she had held on to the ring he had given her. Edward had impacted her life so much that she hadn't wanted to let go of her best friend so had kept his memory alive inside of her.
Katherine listened to what Edward had to say and when he said mentioned that there was her, Katherine tilted her head to the side curiously and looked at Edward in confusion. When he began talking about them rekindling their relationship, Katherine found herself shocked as hell. She hadn't even considered them picking up where they had left off but as she sat in silence for a few moments she had to admit that it did sound right. They had been extremely close and had cared about each other deeply, even if it hadn't quite reached the level of romantic love when they were alive. Katherine knew she had always loved Edward as a friend but there had never been any deep romance between the two. The only real time she had felt that spark of romance was on his birthday when she had given him her virginity. Both of them had died not long after that and it made Katherine wonder if they had survived and remained human, would their love have blossomed?
Smiling up at Edward, Katherine got to her feet to stand in front of him. Their relationship did deserve a second chance to see what could happen if they gave it a chance and as she placed her hands lightly in Edward's, Katherine gave his hands a light squeeze as she gave a slight nod of her head and said: "I think we owe it to ourselves to see what could have been if we'd been given the chance and fate hadn't intervened."
Bringing one hand up, Katherine placed her palm lightly on Edward's cheek then brushed her lightly from the corner of his lips up over his cheekbone. It was something she had always done when they were alive and he would come to visit her after having talked to his father or anybody else for that matter. Although he had always been fairly serious growing up, after their engagement Edward took on a more serious personality. He told her it was because he wanted to do right by her and provide her with everything she could possibly need, but Katherine always gave him the same response. She'd brush her thumb from the edge of his lips over his cheekbone and she'd tell him to smile for her. All she needed was his happiness and as long as he was happy then so was she.
"Smile for me Edward." Katherine said softly as her thumb came to rest on his cheek and she looked up at him with a smile. A small part of her said that he had sounded like he was trying to broker a deal and not ask her to be his again and that was why she wanted to see that smile. His serious expression had a small part of her wondering if he really wanted to do this but she knew that once she saw that smile everything would be fine. She knew when Edward was genuinely happy and when a smile was forced.

He didn't know what had possessed him to say what he had, but perhaps on some level there was truth behind his words. The fact he wanted to try again with Katherine one some level was inviting, although he knew on another level he would never..love Katherine in a romantic way, although he would admit that he loved her as a friend, as his only true best friend. He didn't know how she would react, or even if she would react, perhaps he sounded delusional, to suddenly out of blue ask Katherine once again that they give their past flare another go. Maybe, though his infatuation with Bella was as Alice said a mere crush and nothing else yet he wouldn't know that, not yet anyway. So there was one way to move on from her, one way to try and keep himself occupied, and Katherine was perhaps his only chance. Maybe there was something between he and Katherine that was simply just waiting to be discovered. Edward didn't know what would happen or where it would go yet, he couldn't help but feel that he did wish to find out.
Moments later Katherine go to her feet and made her was to wards him, standing where he was, Katherine soon took his hand, and held it lightly. The sense of familiarity was strong, and it brought memories of old shooting back to him, like silent pictures in a movie. When she squeezed his hand her touch was warm, it felt almost normal. Clasping his hand slowly around hers in turn he looked to her as she spoke. I think we owe it to ourselves to see what could have been if we'd been given the chance and fate hadn't intervened. Katherine commented it made sense of course, he did wonder more than once what would of happened had their relationship continued after his birthday, would they of been in love? would they of been happily married? He didn't know, but as Katherine had said, he guessed they did owe it to themselves to try once more, to fix what had went wrong and try a final time to rekindle their past experiences. Who knew, perhaps he would fall in love with Katherine, like he was supposed to all those years ago.
Nodding at her words, Edward was more than willing to at least try. As Katherine moved closer she pressed her warm palm lightly against his cheek, he recalled the time Katherine always used to do such a thing. Whenever he was down, Whenever he was upset or even scared it was the same gesture Katherine always carried out, and each words that left her lips were always the same. He admitted he had perhaps always been the serious type, yet he had only ever told her that it was for her, that he had wanted the best that he could give her. Although she had declined many offers, and even many gifts, still Katherine had always surprised him, no matter the situation. When her thumb brushed over the corner of his lips, it was like old times all over again. The times they had sat on the bench, on the grass verge over looking the lake, old fashioned as it now seemed, it had always seemed peaceful. Happy almost. Smile for me Edward. Soon the words of old, yet which sounded so new left her lips. Looking to Katherine for a long moment, was he happy? could he be happy with Katherine? Maybe. He had been when they had been human, who was to say it would be that much different.
Slowly as he raised his hand he put it over the top of Katherine's own, wrapping his pale hand over her, which felt so warm. The very fact that he was this close to her, given their new beings as such chased shivers rolling over and through him. Then as he had always used to reply, he smiled a slow steady smile yet one of genuine happiness, glad that Katherine was there, to help him through everything. "I will." he would say, many a time. "For you." Edward's smile increased a fraction, spreading across his pale perfect lips. He took her hand and brought it to his lips, and kissed her palm gently. Yet another gesture he would often do, to show his thanks, his appreciation.

***** As she felt Edward's lips brush over her palm, Katherine couldn't help but smile as her mind took her back to the turn of the twentieth century when she and Edward had been alive. Their relationship may have been a bit complicated but things had been so much easier back then. They knew what was expected of them and knew for their most part where their life was going. Now things weren't so easy. Even though Katherine knew that Edward's offer was genuine and that he did want to try and give their relationship another chance, she also knew that he was doing it in an effort to try and forget Bella. Internally Katherine couldn't help but laugh. As a human she had never had to compete for Edward's attention, especially where another girl was concerned. Now as a vampire and at her best as far as looks went, Katherine was competing for Edward's attention and affection. As ironic as it was, Katherine couldn't help but be glad that he was at least attempting to give her another chance.
Taking a step forward to close the gap between them, Katherine slipped both hear arms around Edward's waist and gave him a gentle hug as she laid her head to rest on his chest for a moment. She was dying to find out where this new relationship would lead and after a few seconds she took a step back then looked up at Edward with a smile as she dropped her arms to her side. With a smile on her lips she said: "Do you want to help me finish unpacking or did you want me to go with you to pick up some things from your place? Did you still want to stay with me for a few days now that we're dating. I know it isn't exactly proper and everything but with the way people are now I don't think they'd view us living together as as much of a big deal as people would have when we were human."
If there was one thing that Katherine liked about the time she lived in now, it was that society was a lot more lenient with things. When she'd been alive if she had even suggested to Edward that they live together before they were married she would have been viewed as a harlot and his parents would have more then likely been quick to try and find another wife for their son. Now though boyfriends and girlfriends lived together fairly often. It wasn't uncommon for them to live in the same house well before they were even engaged and in Katherine and Edward's defense they had at least gotten that far.

Edward caught her thoughts momentarily competing for his affection? This thought alone made Edward frown slightly, then it registered, of course. He did like Bella, a great deal more than he should but perhaps on some level he too liked Katherine, yet perhaps he didn't quite know that yet. None the less Katherine stood up and gave him another hug, but one that meant more than jut friends as the hug had been at the beginning of the day, he hadn't even realized how late it had gotten already the afternoon was upon them.
With her head resting on his chest, Edward returned the hug, wrapping his arms around her waist, and holding her close. Moments later Katherine dropped her arms and stepped back a fraction as she questioned him about what he wanted to do, "How about..I help you unpack. You don't have to come with me to get my things..I'll grab a small bag and come back after we finished unpacking" He stated pausing he then continued "No, it's fine I think staying here for a while will help a great deal, that is. If you want me to stay? I don't wish to be in the way." He commented again. As he then moved away to wards the mess of boxes.
Grabbing the nearest one, he skimmed though it's contents, further pictures, mainly black and white. Picking up the box he moved it into the living room nearer the fire place. "Do you want me to start unpacking these? Where would you like them to go?" He questioned as he moved another box over to the small pile of boxes that were forming near the fire place, every time he moved close to the fire place the dog would lift it's head and watch him with cautious eyes.
With a small sigh he knelt near the dog. "Alright, We should probably try and get along, I won't..well eat you." he muttered feeling completely ridiculous, slowly he extended his hand to wards the dog, and lightly scratched the dog's head hesitantly, and as gently as he could. It felt extremely odd petting an animal other than drinking the blood of one. Eventually after petting the dog, Edward got to his feet and continued to look through various boxes, splitting them into different section, some for bedrooms, some for the kitchen, some for the living room, then some that he didn't quite know where to put.

***** "That sounds good to me. As long as you're sure you don't need any help getting your things together." Katherine said with a smile as she moved to kneel beside some of her boxes. Glancing at the picture that Edward held up to show her, Katherine had to smile. It was a black and white picture of a young girl holding up a melting ice cream cone towards her mother and although the mother could only be seen from the waist down, her hands were digging through her purse in an effort to find a napkin. Photography was a hidden passion of Katherine's and although it wasn't something she did daily, or even weekly, it was a habit that Katherine had had decades to perfect.
"The pictures can honestly go anywhere in the house." Katherine said as she opened the box in front of her to find her other secret but more recent obsession. Katherine had always loved to read but in the box was her growing collection of Sherrilyn Kenyon books. Sure the books could be found in the romance section of any bookstore but Kenyon's twist to vampires and shapeshifters being the result of a curses by the Greek Pantheon of Gods was Katherine's favorite in comparison to every other author out there. Plus the fact that every book focused on a different couple but at the same time continued a bigger story as well as kept past characters returning kept Katherine coming back. One of the things she had to admit was that she always wondered what happened to characters after a book ended. In Kenyon's stories she got to find out.
Carrying the box to a nearby bookshelf, Katherine pulled out Fantasy Lover and set it on one end of one of the shelves before putting up the other books in reading order. Once her Kenyon books were out, Katherine pulled out her books by Anne Bishop which was her second favorite author who had been bumped down after Katherine discovered Kenyon. Of course Katherine's all time favorite book as well as movie was Gone with the Wind and after putting that book away, Katherine began to put away the other books she had collected over the decades including a few like Dracula and Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. She may have been a vampire but Katherine had to admit she enjoyed reading the romanticized versions of her people.
Glancing back over her shoulder, Katherine smiled as Edward tried to make nice with her puppy and as the thought entered her mind she had to smile. At some point she'd have to give him a name but so far no name she had come up with had met with approval from the creature. Watching her puppy for a few seconds, Katherine went back to unpacking her box before noticing that the sound of movement had stopped. Turning around as she picked up her empty box, Katherine began to take the box apart before laying it flat on the floor by her door.
"Ummm....were you going to want your own room or......" Katherine's voice trailed off as she found herself unable to ask Edward if he wanted to share a bedroom with her. They were supposed to be dating but she didn't know who far Edward wanted to take things. She knew she wouldn't mind if he wanted his own room but if he did then she was going to give him first choice of the pictures for his room. She really didn't care where things went in her house. Either way they were going to be in her house and if any of her little knick knacks or pictures appealed to Edward she wanted to make him comfortable.

That sounds good to me. As long as you're sure you don't need any help getting your things together. Edward smiled softly, he couldn't deny the help, but at the same time Katherine had already done more than enough to help him, perhaps without even realizing it. "No it's fine, but thank you, I only need to grab a few things, I think by my staying here it will improve matters." he commented with a small smile. As he moved the last of the most recent boxes, all that was left now was to simply unpack them, and place them. So setting to work Edward begun placing odd bits here and there. He flattened various boxes and stacked them in a neat pile. Her thoughts registered before her words that left her mouth in the next moment, as he unloaded the last of the current boxes, he slowly dusted of his hands and looked to Katherine. "Oh." he said, of course he hadn't thought of that, not that it would matter right? They wouldn't exactly be sleeping in it. Or anything else for that matter, on his behalf anyway. "I don't mind, whichever you prefer, I'm quite happy with sharing if you like..to take up an extra room. Well theres no real need to." Edward commented, after all he was only staying for a while, he had yet to figure out how long that was. On the other hand, if he truly did develop strong feelings for Katherine once again, than the other room was perhaps unimportant.
"But, If you'd rather I have my own room, I'm content with that also, it's your house I hate to be a burden of any kind." he muttered lightly as he folded another box, and begun to work on the unsorted selection of boxes, one thing the place seemed to lack was more, furniture. It seemed to bare, and needed something else to make it at least look 'lived in' As he worked his way automatically through the many boxes, finally unloading the bulk of it. He uncovered a few old Cd's that had obviously recently as such been transfered from records and recordings of past music. He smiled softly as he glanced at one, a song he knew all to well on it. Perhaps it wasn't that old, moving over the the small radio that stood on the kitchen top clearly a new feature. Edward inserted the CD and the Elana waltz begun to play, a popular song from their era.
As it begun to play he turned to Katherine and smiled, there was no harm in a little fun beside he needed to get his mind off of the subject of Bella, whom consumed his very thoughts. Approaching Katherine, much like he had once in the old days, under his parents instructions, he placed a hand behind his back and offered the other to her. "Will you do the honers of dancing with me?" He asked, and with a gentle bow he waited for her to accept his hands, once she had he smiled and moved into the large expanse of the living room and begun to dance with the music. I haven't done this..in..well a very long time." he mused as they glided over the small space in which they simply had to make do with, as his hands slipped lower onto her waist he lifted her and turned her, before he then continued to dance swiftly, and gracefully together, he smiled to her. "See, I can have fun." he mused as he then turned her in a light pirouette under his arm. The music flowed nicely and his body almost naturally settled into the familiar rhythm of the music.

***** "That's true." Katherine said with an embarrassed sort of smile as she mentally kicked herself for not thinking about the fact that it really didn't matter if their stuff shared a room or not. They didn't sleep but when she lived with the Volturi she had had a roommate of sorts. Neither one of them slept in the room but their things shared a room and there were a couple beds in the room. While Katherine's be had only ever been used to sit on while she put on her shoes or something, Katherine was well aware of the fact that her roommates bed had gotten a lot more use. Her roommate was known among the Volturi as being a bit of a slut and a few of the male vampires had expected Katherine to be the same way. They all got very upset when Katherine didn't turn out to be as accommodating as her roommate but luckily none had ever forced themselves on her. After they found out that she had been engaged to Edward though, some began to accuse her of thinking she was better then them since Edward didn't feed from humans and she only fed from evil ones. That had actually played a part in why she had sought out Edward as well.
As thoughts of these vampires entered her mind, Katherine looked up at the sound of the music. Smiling as Edward asked her if she'd like to dance, Katherine got to her feet and slipped her hand into his before he was pulling her body close to his and the two began to spin around the room in an all too familiar dance. As the smile on her lips grew, Katherine closed her eyes and found that it was easy enough to picture her and Edward back in their time at one of the countless parties the two had attended. Opening her eyes when she heard Edward's voice, Katherine had to laugh when he said that he was capable of having fun. Hugging him a bit tighter, Katherine stood on her toes and placed a light kiss on his cheek before she lowered herself back on to her feet and continued to dance with him.
"I never said you were incapable of having fun Edward. You just always took life so seriously and I wanted you to enjoy it as much as I did." Katherine said with a smile as she found herself being spun under Edward's arm before being pulled in tight to his body again. As the waltz continued to play, Katherine laid her head against Edward's chest and let her thoughts wander back in time again. Had they both lived they undoubtedly would have danced this waltz at their wedding and at numerous parties after. Of course since it wasn't exactly proper for a lady to be out when she was visibly pregnant, Katherine knew had they started a family they would have had to stay home. Or at least she would have.
Katherine had heard stories about men who attended parties while their wives were home in delicate conditions and had wound up finding a lover for the night. Katherine knew that Edward was not that kind of man but she couldn't help wondering if he may have found one or two lovers at parties while she was at home. He had been and still was an attractive man and she knew numerous women who had been jealous that it had been her who had become his fiancee and who would have shamelessly thrown themselves at Edward were she not around. Would they have still thrown themselves at Edward after the two of them were married?
As the song came to an end, Katherine lifted her head up off of Edward's chest and smiled up at him. Pushing her thoughts out of her head, Katherine said: "It's been a long time since I've danced with anybody like that. Thank you Edward."

The music continued to play for a long while and still they dance, turning Katherine around so that her back was to him and his arm across the back of the waist as they moved, until he once again turned her around in a small circle under his arm. He smiled slightly as he watched Katherine's expression, was she embarrassed now? He wondered why she was so embarrassed, yet of course the answer came a moment later within her thoughts at her idea, he could not help but smile a fraction more. "It's up to you as I said, I'm quite happy to share, after all it's only my things that will be within your room and I myself occasionally." he commented as they danced slowly in time with the music once again even as she moved closer to him and dropped a sweet kiss to his cheek, and her head rested for a moment on his chest. Keeping a hand around her waist and another holding her hand as they swayed with his head next to hers, his cool breath teased at her neck slightly without even realizing it. never said you were incapable of having fun Edward. You just always took life so seriously and I wanted you to enjoy it as much as I did. Katherine replied and Edward chuckled slightly, shaking his head amusement only faintly noticeable on his features. "I'm not always that serious. Well..perhaps slightly." he begun, before he paused and then corrected himself. "Well, alright, perhaps a large majority. But someone has to be the mature one, for you certainly aren't." he teased faintly although there was a small amount of truth in his comment.
Both of through their childhood had been immature, it was only until the marriage was made officially when Edward finally grew up, perhaps a lot faster than he wanted to, yet it was necessary back then. He wanted to look after Katherine as best as possible. The thoughts that echoed from her mind the next moment was certainly surprising, they were thought that he felt the need to answer to. "You know..I wouldn't of done anything like that." he stated as they danced "Besides, even if they had. I would of paid them little attention as I do any other female. You should know that." he added as he spun her one last time. As the song slowly drew to a close, he smiled and slowly moved away from Katherine and bowed a fraction to complete the dance.
It's been a long time since I've danced with anybody like that. Thank you Edward. She commented and Edward nodded and smiled, "It was my pleasure, it's perhaps the most fun I have had in a very long time." He added, in a conversational tone. Moving away from Katherine he moved to the CD player and ejected the CD before he then flicked on the radio, which played a variety of different songs most of which suited him well so far, songs new and old and recently mainly some sponge he even knew. The song that then begun to play was a slow and gentle, a song he could even play on piano. Cut. Was the song simple in words and by the artist, yet it was the song lyrics it's self were ones that he enjoyed to listen to. The song had become a recent favorite of his. Again he moved to wards. Katherine and offered her his hand. "One more dance, than we can continue unpacking" He stated before he slowly placed his hands back onto her waist and drew her closer as they danced slowly, namely just so that they could remember, perhaps even talk about past times. Then it may well just help him forget about Bella. Was is just some crush? Perhaps? Did he have feelings for Katherine? Who knew. He had yet to find out.

***** As the song came to an end and Edward gave a small bow, Katherine lowered her head and gave a small curtsy before rising back up and smiling at him. As he moved to change the music that was playing for them, Katherine felt a tinge of red hit her cheek as embarrassment washed over her when he answered her unspoken fear. She really had to watch what she thought about him but as he changed the CD she felt the need to give explain what she had been thinking.
"I know you would have never cheated on me Edward but since when have you known women to be rational creatures?" Katherine asked with teasing laughter in her voice as he went through her CD's and she lightly clasped her fingers behind her back. As he seemed to find one she added: "I just knew that none of those women could be trusted. Even the ones who called themselves my friends would look you over whenever they thought I wasn't watching. It wasn't even so much the cheating that worried me as much as it was the fact that I was terrified I might lose my best friend."
As Edward stepped forward and asked her for one more dance, Katherine smiled and nodded as she stepped into his arms again. As they began to move to the music, Katherine looked up at Edward with obvious pain and sorrow in her eyes as she said: "When your dad got sick my parents had already began talking about finding me a new husband. You weren't even sick yet but they said that it was only a matter of time and I had to accept it. When I told them that I wouldn't accept it and that I refused to let go of my best friend so easily they told me that I had plenty of friends. My decision to visit you and your mother daily at the hospital had my parents kick me out of our home and get me a small apartment in some rundown building a few blocks from the hospital. They seemed to think your friendship was something that I could easily replace and when I refused to give up on you they got angry."
As Katherine spoke the image of her last fight with her parents played through her head. Her mother and father both stood against her but eventually her mother sat down and cried as her father asked her if she thought Edward would give up his family and friends to stay with her if she were in the hospital. She had told him that she knew he would but it hadn't helped. She had packed up her bags that night and the next morning when she told her parents she was going to the hospital they had told her that they would have somebody meet her outside the hospital with the key to her new home and her bags would be moved there. They refused to put themselves or Katherine's siblings at risk because as they put it, she wanted to be a fool.
As Katherine danced with Edward, she let her head rest lightly on his chest and closed her eyes as she pushed the fight with her parents out of her mind. Instead she let her mind drift back to the party that her parents and his parents had thrown in honor of their engagement. It hadn't been the first time the two had danced but it had been the first time that Katherine had been able to lay her head on his chest as they moved around the room to the music. She had felt so safe and secure in his arms and she had been grateful that her parents had chosen him to be her husband. Many of her friends were marrying older men because the marriage would help their family's status. At least her parents had chosen a man her own age.

When she spoke, as he pulled her closer to get ready to dance, they begun to move in time with the music slowly once again. I know you would have never cheated on me Edward but since when have you known women to be rational creatures? Katherine commented, and Edward smiled softly. That was true, woman were never rational creatures, they were far from it. "You know I believe woman are perhaps the most dangerous creatures out there." he mused softly as they danced. At least that was what he thought, every encounter he had had so far with woman, they had been perhaps the most dangerous. The way they could easily toy with the mind of a guy. Not that he had really had much experience in that matter, the point was still there. As she continued on about how woman couldn't be trusted he smiled softly as he listened, and as he then heard about her friends he shook his head. "Perhaps they were, but I wasn't really paying attention to them, and besides. If females can not be trusted, how do I know that I can trust you?" he teased in return as he slowly spun her with the music and drew her gently closer to him once again as they continued to sway, softly and slowly.
When Katherine then added about loosing her best friend, Edward frowned slightly and looked down to Katherine, as she then continued her expression changed instantly to one of pain, and loss and perhaps even fear. As he listened Edward maintained the frown that was present on his brow, of course that was true. Although Edward had respected Katherine's parents he had never particularly liked them. Especially her father, who always saw a person for how large their pocket was other than they themselves. Countless times had Edward listened to Katherine's father talk about others to him, other possible matches, be little-ing certain families simply because one was ill, or a member was injured. That was one aspect Edward hated, the fact that her father never looked past the exterior of a man. Some where dressed in the finest qualities, yet as Edward spoke to them, for his friends benefit they had turned out to be nothing more than a scum. Money and material only mattered to them, and a woman to them were nothing more than a trophy, something that spent day in and day out within the house, a slave to all of their needs. Only ever allowed to venture out to formal parties. His father had been the same to an extent. Which in some ways Edward was glad he had been picked for Katherine, he knew that he would never do such a thing to her, and that at the same time he could offer her the very best, and give her what she deserved if not more.
When she had finished, Edward still continued to move, yet he gazed to her with thanks. Endless appreciation. "Thank you..for what you did back then, I don't know what I would of done had you not of been their, I knew when my father became ill it was only a matter of time, I helped him, then mother. Then it was me. Like I told you, I suppose I only held on, because I knew you were coming." he smiled slightly and shook his head. "I knew though, when I heard the words of Carlisle that everything would be alright, that it was finally alright to let go. I knew then that I would see you at some point. Once I had transformed I spent hours only coming out at night, I didn't dare be seen any other time. I saw you once. I guess though I couldn't bring myself to see you properly. Carlisle had told me, that it was dangerous. I understood that of course. I had to leave that night though." He stated. as he spun her slowly once more he looked down to her, his expression calm, his face a gentle smile. "You know, You would of never of lost me Katherine, I was always there, always around. You just didn't know." he commented as the song reached the second to last verse after swaying a fraction more he came to a slow stop before her, and touched his fingertips to her cheek. "Thank you once again. For everything you did for me."

***** "You grew up with me. That's how you know you can trust me." Katherine replied automatically and with a soft laugh as the two of them slowly spun around the room. As she danced with Edward, Katherine stayed close to him and rested her head against his chest until he stopped moving to the music. Looking up at Edward as his fingers lightly touched her cheek, Katherine found herself tilting her head slightly into his touch. Looking up into Edward's eyes, Katherine smiled and brought her own hand up. Placing her hand on his cheek, Katherine brushed her thumb lightly over his cheekbone as he thanked her for everything she had done back when they were both human still.
"There's no reason to thank me Edward. You were my best friend and would have done anything for you. I didn't want to lose you." Katherine said softly as her perfectly manicured thumb grazed over Edward's skin lightly. As Katherine looked up into Edward's eyes, she found herself forgetting that they were two completely different people who were just beginning their relationship again. Feeling as if she had her best friend back and feeling as if she were in the same position she had been in as a human, Katherine slowly raised herself up on her toes and brushed her lips lightly over Edward's lips.
The kiss was brief and when Edward didn't push her away, Katherine wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips more firmly against his. Pressing her body against his, Katherine's eyelids gently fluttered closed and she lightly flicked her tongue over Edward's lips as if asking for silent permission to allow her tongue to dance with his.

You grew up with me. That's how you know you can trust me. were the first words that left Katherine's lips, Edward smiled softly clearly amused by her comment. "Maybe, but how do I know I can trust you? You are a different being now if we are going to get technical." he mused, his tone held a faint teasing glimmer. He felt at ease, yes. But It didn't feel right as such, as if something was missing. Pressing the thoughts to the back of his mind he focused on Katherine, the here and the now. That was what mattered right? When they eventually stopped and when he looked down to her he in turn felt her hand raised to touch his own cheek her touch just as delicate and just as light, her thumb trailed a soft line along his cheek and to the corner of his lips, that suddenly left him winded, As if caught by surprise. Maybe, just maybe there was something between them, but he didn't know for sure, how would he know?
There's no reason to thank me Edward. You were my best friend and would have done anything for you. I didn't want to lose you. Katherine admitted which perhaps only added to the odd surprise. He shook his head "Like I said Katherine, you didn't loose me, I was there. Just..not with you." he admitted, yet before he could say anything more, lips pressed against his. Lips that were warm an not at all like the burning fire he had tasted from Bella. Standing their for a moment not sure how to even respond to such a gesture it had been a while since he had kissed a woman, Bella only being his most recent. But this was different. There was something else there that was underneath a latch of sorts, that at any moment it could spring and a whole new set of emotions and feeling he had long forgotten would resurface.
In the next moment Katherine wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips more firmly against his. She too pressed herself closer against him. Slowly, Edward returned the kiss unsure himself, he kissed her gently, his arms slowly coming to rest over her hips and around her back. As his own eyes fluttered close for a brief moment as they kissed, the kiss its' self was slow to begin with although there was certainly a hidden undercurrent of emotion underneath their kiss. Pulling back a fraction, their lips only inches apart he was overthrown by the sudden further wave of emotion, he paused for a moment, yet Katherine's lips soon found his once again and her tongue sort permission against his lips. Slowly, he allowed just that, parting his lips for her. His arms remained wrapped around her waist and held her against him, was he perhaps covering up his feelings for Bella and taking it out on Katherine? He hoped not, yet at least this was one way to find out just what he felt.

***** Katherine wasn't exactly sure of what she was doing as she moved her lips gently against Edward's but as Edward responded she felt a small spark. It was like a small spark of recognition. Almost as if her body was responding to the memory of past kisses they had shared. If truth were to be told they hadn't shared too many passionate kisses since it just wasn't done in their day and age but the night of his birthday had resulted in numerous passionate kisses between the two of them. The kiss they were sharing at that moment reminded her of that night and she found herself keeping her body pressed against his until the sound of his phone ringing cut through the air.
Breaking the kiss, Katherine pulled back a bit as she looked up at Edward with a slightly glazed look in her eyes. She had to admit that she had enjoyed the kiss and as she dropped her arms from his shoulders, she watched him answer his call. Lightly running her tongue over her lower lip, Katherine lightly bit it as she turned her back to Edward went over to a picture she had put in one of her bookcases. As she adjusted the picture, she knew that if she'd been alive her heart would have been racing. She couldn't explain why she had kissed Edward since she wasn't the type of girl who made moves on guys, but with Edward it was something different. She hadn't seemed to mind making a move on him and when she heard him hanging up the phone she turned to look at him as she slowly released her lip.
She wasn't exactly sure of what she should say. Part of her felt as if she should apologize but at the same time another part of her was saying that they were technically dating now so kissing him wasn't completely out of line for her to do. It wasn't as if she'd ripped his clothes off and tried to have sex with him right there in her living room. Feeling as if she should say something thought instead of just standing there and staring at him, Katherine smiled slightly then asked: "Who was it on the phone if you don't mind me asking?"

As the kiss continued to progress, at a steady rate, and as his lips moved against Katherine's in time, the continuous gesture, did indeed ignite something deep inside of him, which he was sure Katherine herself felt. As they remained against one another, Katherine's body pressed up close against his, his hands slowly glided up her side to rest on her cheek and lightly cup her face as he kissed her fractionally harder, urging for more given the sudden heighten in emotion. Yet no matter what he thought, what he did the image of Bella burned within his mind. Calming himself down a large amount he pulled back a fraction once again, even though Katherine pressed her body, tightly against his own. Suddenly a buzzing, sounded in his pocket followed shortly after by a ringing noise. When he finally broke the kiss completely he pulled back a step, it was too much too soon. As he looked to Katherine for a long moment, his chest rose and fell sharply. "Uh..Sorry, I should take this." he commented as he glanced at the screen. Flicking it open he placed it to his ear and begun a brief conversation.
Soon it ended and he flipped the phone close, and slipped it back into his pocket, before he looked back to a still slightly shocked, and breathless looking Katherine as she tended to a photo near the bookcase. As she approached him and asked him about the phone call. He smiled a fraction although had no real idea what he could say given the previous passionate emotion. "It's fine, and Carlisle, he's wondering what's happening, as he and Emmett are going hunting tonight." He stated with a light shrug. Before he looked down a fraction. "I'm um, well I'm going to go home grab a bag of stuff and then I'll be back soon." he stated with a small smile as he then turned to go. Yet before he did he paused and returned to Katherine's side where he pressed a brief gentle kiss to her cheek, caressing it slightly with his finger tips he then turned and headed out the door, the rain had slightly eased off for the moment. Which gave him some time. Once outside he picked up his feet and ran swiftly and elegantly into the forest.
As he ran his thoughts were not as clear as he had hoped, his mind still screamed for Bella, the sheer thought of her sent his dead heart soaring, her name on his lips sounded like a bittersweet melody. Shaking his head a fraction he had to focus on the now, look past all of the 'could Be's ' Looking a head he weaved among the tree's effortlessly. After what felt like a hour or so he finally reached the large home. He had a lot of explaining to do, he knew. He hoped Carlisle would understand, he doubted that alone should be a problem. Yet Emmett would perhaps be the only real issue, asking him countless questions, and no doubt never letting him live anything down. Those were a few things that Edward hoped to avoid, hence why he planned to get in and then straight out after a quick, brief explanation.
