I guess I've got dad's voice stuck in my head. came the sudden almost thoughtful comment from Katherine, she was in her own world sometimes, Edward was sure of it, she would occasionally just tune out, and often say things that made very little sense like now, although still he looked to her, his expression questioning. Arching his eyebrow he waited, for her to elaborate on her sentence. Soon enough her thoughts gave it away, and a small smile crept onto his face, Oh, he remembered her father most certainly it was odd though Edward had seemed to get on with him better than his own father at times, watching her still silently even as she turned to face him, he waited for Katherine to continue, who seemed to be debating about just what to say, although Edward had a feeling he already knew.
You don't get something for nothing right? I keep expecting for Aro or Caius to show up and demand some form of payment for those nearly three decades that they took care of me. She finally said and Edward nodded, it was a typical thing of Katherine, she always usually felt guilty for any small favor done for her, and each time she would come to him and ask what she should do, most of the time Edward would say the same thing. 'Do nothing' even now as he watched her and listened to her it was clear that she was now expecting them to demand something of her, and although he wished he could of said do nothing, he knew that would be wrong, Aro, would want something in return and he would bring it up whenever he saw fit. What that return favor was however, he didn't know.
However at her next comment he frowned, although he thought very little of the Volturi if anything for that matter, he knew they were certainly not that type, that was for sure, respect was extremely important when dealing with the Volturi, besides Aro, he knew would not stand for it, that was perhaps the only good thing about them. Soon the conversation twisted onto something else. Something that once again cause a frown to line his perfect brow. And what's the one thing that has yet to solidify that keeps you from joining the Volturi? The one thing? there were plenty of things perhaps to many to even begin to name, Edward shook his head. "I never want to join them, I'd soon rather be dead then join them, they have done nothing so far that proves they are doing their job. For example the rise in deaths? the disappearance? the number of bodies found with the same markings? How long do you think the cover of an animal attack will last, something is happening and the Volturi have done nothing about it, On another note, their diet. I have plenty more reasons." Edward stated, his tone stubborn.
However the reply he got, was a genuine jib at him in general, had he found a girlfriend? at the thought he could not help but smile slightly, the corner of his lip lifted into a crooked smile. "Yes and No, I have found someone, possibly yes, although the situation it's self is..complicated.." he admitted, although he trusted Katherine there was still part of him that would refuse to tell her just what that situation was, but at the same time he felt that she needed to know, perhaps she could even offer advice. Still, Edward knew the rules and he had broken them, and the out come was not pretty. For one thing, a human to know about Vampires was death for both of them perhaps, one of them if Aro was feeling generous, But, Edward could not imagine his life without Bella not now. Looking down he smiled softly turning around so he leaned back against the balcony. "She's stubborn, extremely stubborn, clumsy and a genuine danger magnet, everything about her calls to me, when I'm with her, I feel..different. I can't..read her mind, so everything about her intrigues me.." He admitted with a small almost secrete smile, at the sheer thought about Bella.

***** As Edward talked about this new girl in his life Katherine couldn't help but feel a slight flash of jealousy that disappeared nearly as quickly as it had appeared. She knew that it was silly to be jealous since obviously over the past nearly hundred years he was bound to have had at the very least one other girl in his life. As Katherine brought her hand up to lightly grasp the engagement he ring he had given her which had slipped out from under her shirt, Katherine told herself not to be jealous. Yes she cared about Edward, probably more then she had ever cared about any other man in her life, but he wasn't her fiance anymore. She knew that while they had been alive Edward had been faithful to her and hadn't so much as glanced at another woman while they were engaged. Now that they were dead and they were no longer engaged, Katherine had to be happy for Edward. Just because she hadn't found somebody knew in her life, it didn't give her the right to be upset because Edward had.
"You know Aro would welcome her Edward. Any vampire who could shield their thoughts from you would have him curious as to whether they could shield their thoughts from him and whether they could protect their minds from other vampires." Katherine said with a shrug of her shoulders. She knew how badly Aro wanted Edward to join the Volturi and if this new girlfriend was the reason why Edward was refusing them then Katherine knew she was in danger. Carlisle was a respected friend to Aro so Aro was hesitant to kill Carlisle or Emmett because he was Carlisle's son. He didn't want to hurt either one if he could avoid it but this girlfriend didn't have that protection. Aro would kill her to get Edward to join him and because he didn't like the possibility of their being any beings who could stand up to him or his army.
"Well she is definitely a danger magnet if what you say about her is true. Since you'd never join the Volturi I suggest you keep this vampire a secret from Aro. Her abilities can be viewed as a threat by Aro since her abilities probably not only protect her from people like you and him who can read others minds, but she may be able to protect herself from mental attacks. Aro would never let anybody he sees as a risk live Edward so keep your girlfriend carefully protected." Katherine said as she turned so her back was against the railing. Having let go of her engagement ring, Katherine gently tucked it back in under her shirt as she turned to look at Edward with a small smile.
"I'm glad you met somebody though Edward. How long have you know her? You didn't know her when you came to visit us a few years ago did you? Because if you did and you didn't tell me you do know I have the right to cause a scene because you were keeping this secret from me." Katherine said with a small laugh in an effort to kind of lighten the mood. She didn't like being a downer so after her little observation on the Volturi she wanted to kind f lighten the mood a bit.

Whenever he mentioned her name a mixture of emotions would crop up and the past events would flash before him once again, the kiss, then the denial, and hen everything else on top of that, given the complication of their, odd form of relationship, was it even a relationship? He didn't know, he wanted to be with her, yet at the same time couldn't his morals had gotten the better of him, secondly, he wanted a friendship but at the same time couldn't, he couldn't bare to see her with another, but he reasoned as long as she was happy what did it matter? perhaps he himself should try to move on, to make himself a life, a life Bella couldn't live with him, a life, he didn't want her to live, and a life where she didn't belong, no matter how much he wanted her to be a part of that. Distracted by thoughts, emotions he barely even registered the fact that Katherine was once again speaking to him.
.. Any vampire who could shield their thoughts from you would have him curious as to whether they could shield their thoughts from him and whether they could protect their minds from other vampires. Was what he heard as he looked to Katherine, she had a confused, almost sad expression on her face, he frowned slightly, why was she so sad, they had never loved on another, yes their feelings for each other had been strong but never once had he said it was love, although perhaps in time it could of been, but time had been taken from them, and they were at the beginning once more. Yet, Bella wasn't a vampire, she was far from it, and that was there the problem lied. Looking to Katherine his expression thoughtful he wondered if he should indeed tell her, but would she not tell Aro? but he trusted her didn't he? With a gentle sigh, he decided to be truthful he owed Katherine that. He paused then continued, looking away and turning back to face the view of the lake, resting on his arms. "it's not, that easy, True though, I'm not joining them, because I have her, and I have my family, they are all that matter to me, and nothing can change that, and I refuse to be away from her." Edward stated his tone stubborn, and determined, he had made his mind up and there was no changing that, no matter who you were.
Well she is definitely a danger magnet if what you say about her is true. Since you'd never join the Volturi I suggest you keep this vampire a secret from Aro. Her abilities can be viewed as a threat by Aro since her abilities probably not only protect her from people like you and him who can read others minds, but she may be able to protect herself from mental attacks. Aro would never let anybody he sees as a risk live Edward so keep your girlfriend carefully protected. Katherine commented, and Edward smiled a fraction before he continued. "Bella is not my girlfriend, but I care for her..deeply." he admitted which was certainly the truth, anything else and it would of been a lie. When Katherine mentioned about meeting someone new. He looked to Katherine for a long moment, the light glinted of something small and circular, his eyes instantly found her neck, and around it was a chain, yet that was not what caught this eye, what did was the ring she wore, the ring he had given her a hundred or so years ago. He looked down and then to he lake, before he commented softly glancing to his hands. "I see your wearing my ring, I didn't expect you to keep it all this long." he admitted although smiled a faction, a sad smile almost.
Still there were things that needed to be said, and as Katherine continued he paused thoughtful for a moment he needed to tell her, he could trust her, couldn't he? Pressing his lips together in a tight line he spoke his tone gentle. "Katherine, I trust you, promise me, what I tell you, you tell no other." he pleaded silently as he glanced to her and continued cautiously. It was dangerous but he did certainly owe Katherine some form of explanation. His expression was hesitant. "Bella..isn't a vampire..shes a human. It's wrong I know, which is why I cannot be with her, but I want to, I've known her for little less than a week or so, since first starting Forks. Yet.." He smiled a half smile, a crooked smile, that had recently been on of his best traits, if not habits. "You know me, my Morals are..well old fashioned." he mused softly before he looked down thoughtful once again. "I don't know what to do about it, she's due to be married soon, and already I have done something I shouldn't." he admitted shaking his head it was something he wasn't proud of, yet at the same time, he didn't regret it.

***** Smiling slightly as her fingers once again found the ring that was hanging from her neck at Edward's comment, Katherine held it up a bit to look at it. With a shrug of her shoulders, Katherine looked over at Edward and with a soft sigh she lowered her head and let her hair fall around her face as she softly said in a somewhat sheepish tone: "I know it's silly but you were my best friend Edward and if I hadn't been dead I'm sure the news of your death would have killed me. I guess I'm just a sentimental fool who didn't want to let go of her friend."
Looking up and nodding when Edward asked her to promise that she wouldn't tell anybody what he was about to tell her, Katherine listened to him and felt her jaw dropping as her eyes widened. Edward had feelings for a human? Having feelings for one of their own kind was dangerous but having them for a human was downright idiotic. At least another vampire stood a chance if another vampire decided to attack. A human stood no chance and although she had never been known for cursing, Katherine looked down at the ground and softly muttered: "Shit!"
Taking a step away from the railing, Katherine found herself wondering what it was that Edward had done that he felt he shouldn't have done. Had he told her what he was? If he had that could end up being a death sentence not only for her but for him as well. Biting her lip, Katherine began to chew on it which had been a habit of hers even as a human. This wasn't something she had been expecting upon her arrival in Forks and as she tried to figure out what to say or do about this unexpected development, her puppy trotted up to and mentally asked her if he could go exploring. Nodding her head slightly, Katherine gave him specific instructions to stay where she could see and not to wander into the trees to which he gave a soft bark of acknowledgment then trotted off.
Waiting until the puppy was away from them, Katherine turned to look at Edward with a hint of sadness in her eyes. She didn't know what it felt like to fall for somebody you weren't supposed to but she was sure that it couldn't be the best feeling in the world. Sighing slightly she gave Edward a weak smile and said: "This is bad Edward. You know that it's dangerous to form any kind of close relationship with a human. It only puts you in danger but them as well. I wish I could tell you to stop it but feelings aren't exactly a light switch and they're not exactly something that can be turned on and off. Think about what you're doing though Edward. Humans aren't the most rational creatures on the planet. I'm not saying it's true for your human but if she's engaged to be married she could be experiencing cold feet and what she thinks she feels for you may not be real. If they are real you have to think about her fiancee. Do you think he's going to be happy about you taking his fiancee away from him. Humans can be some of the stupidest creatures on the planet and males sit at the top of that list. You taking his girl is a stab at his male ego and he won't let that go. He'll keep coming at you til one of you is dead. Whatever you decide you know I'll stand beside you, just be careful. I don't want to see you get hurt."
Moving to stand beside Edward again, Katherine leaned against the railing and looked at him curiously. "This is so unlike you Edward. When we were alive some of the girls in our social circle were gorgeous but you never even so much as looked at them. After we got engaged you never even glanced at another woman. I'm honestly finding it hard to believe that you're attracted to a woman who's engaged to be married to another man. You barely even wanted to even look at an engaged women when we were alive because you didn't want people to get the wrong impression about her or about you. There must be something special about this Bella for you to have changed so much for her."
Turning so that her body was facing Edward, Katherine gave him a comforting smile as she placed her hand lightly on his arm. "Whatever you decide Edward, you know you have my support. Just let me know if you need my help with anything."

Edward watched Katherine as she toyed with the ring around her neck, she seemed to admire it deeply and obviously seemed to treasure it more than he had thought possible, although the fact she kept the ring meant something didn't it? I know it's silly but you were my best friend Edward and if I hadn't been dead I'm sure the news of your death would have killed me. I guess I'm just a sentimental fool who didn't want to let go of her friend. Katherine commented, it was something he had never expected her to say, yet when she did say it, it was something he would remember, he smiled softly as she looked to him, moving from the banister he came to stand before her, and lightly clasped the ring on the chain that hung around her neck, he frowned softly at the memories that seemed to whoosh back. "I remember the day I gave it to you, I looked to my father like he was mad. But he said everything would work out." he stated before he turned the ring between his fingers. He had once stole it from her, whilst they had once shared a bed, and he had, had it engraved. Nothing special. Remaining oddly close to Katherine, he looked on the inside of the ring.
Her scent danced around him and her warm breath, oddly warm breath danced across his neck, he had never been this close with a female since Katherine, and perhaps recently Bella, but he certainly had not been close to a female vampire until now, and it was more effective that he would ever think it possible it too was unlike anything he had really ever experienced, especially seeing the two of them were once an item perhaps you did take something of your human life with you into your new life as a vampire, if that was what you wanted to call it. Tension stirred the air, nothing more then attraction, perhaps a mutual one but who knew? Looking to Katherine for he moment he smiled softly and indicated to the ring. "I remember.. Kitty." he mused, he had used to call her Kitty all the time when they were younger, one. Because of her connection to animals. Two, because it was a shorter version of her name, and Three. It sometimes used to annoy the hell out of her, when he called her Kitty-Kat. Glancing to the ring he read softly, his tone gentle "Dearest Kitty. Together until the end." He murmured of course it was meant in the non..love interest way but it could be taken both ways, and they both knew that. Yet whatever they felt when they were together, was close to that of love. That he knew, and what he knew now was that he cared deeply for her.
Dropping the ring slowly he looked up to her, they hadn't seen each other in over at least 2, maybe three years and when they saw each other now, this probably wasn't the best to begin with. None the less when he went onto to say about Bella, he watched Katherine's face drop, he in turn took a well needed step away from her, to increase the distance and ease the odd tension that circled the air around them. Her reaction was typical, although he had never really heard her curse such words, there was always a first time for anything and they were dealing with the modern day now. By the thoughts that raced in her mind, namely of the thing he had done, Edward once again pressed his lips together and continued. "I kissed her..even though she was engaged, but that's not all..she knows Katherine. Everything, what's more she didn't find out from me, she guessed, apparently a vampire with the name Victoria is after her, she's creating an army of sorts." he shook his head if that was true then it would explain the numerous missing people, and dead people. Yet why where the Volturi not stepping in?
Shaking his head he sighed, and leaned back against the banister once more as he listened to Katherine speaking the words he had expected to hear none the less. After her lecture had passed he nodded and raised his hands, to calm her. "I know, Katherine. I know, and I agree with you. Which is the reason I have said no, the reason I have acted as I have to wards her, I spoke to her sister, briefly I agreed with what she said, I think the best thing, for me to simply stay away from her. That way she is safer, I have to accept it and move on. How things should be.." He admitted as he lowered his hand and cast his gaze sideways out over the lake. "I don't want her in danger, and I refuse to destroy her future. She's better with him, I can offer her nothing." Edward stated which was certainly true. He could only offer her so much, but he could not offer her a life, a family, where as Jacob could. The differences between Bella and himself were too great, to dangerous. It was simply better this way.
When she expressed her concern he nodded and smiled softly, he would always be grateful for Katherine and for everything she had done for him, that would never change. He said nothing as the silence stretched as Katherine moved to stand beside him, she of course was the first to break the ice. She was right, he had never glanced at another woman, he had barely even said a word to any one, the only female friend he had ever had, and had ever known was Katherine. Even when they got engaged, his patterns did not change, only the fact that he would walk down the street with Katherine on his arm, they had both had to mature at the early age of 15, their childhoods had both been cut short. Pondering her questioned, Edward leaned on the banister his head in his hands as he grasped at the back of his neck, it was hard to function physically and emotionally when Bella was on his mind. "I don't know Katherine, I just don't know." He admitted with a sigh before he straighted a fraction "Perhaps it is some childish crush, making up for all the crushes a normal teen should have." he mused with a humorless smile trying to make excuses for himself yet at the same time it seemed right, and seemed true.
Were they just some silly crush? Perhaps, but there were ways to find out, and he would find out but in time. To do that he would need the help from Katherine. Maybe they were just some crush..some pointless, hopeless crush that stood no chance of ever lasting, how could it? He was a vampire she human. Staring blankly at the lake's view and the small bundle of fluff that was her dog, running around the lakes edge. He simply stared barely even moving, afraid to think. Suddenly Katherine's hand rested on his arm, straightening himself a fraction he turned to look to her. With words of encouragement he nodded. "I know, I trust you. And thank you Katherine.." Edward said his tone gentle, smooth and soft in appraisal.

***** "She knows about us? Oh gos Edward this is a lot more complicated then I thought. You should have told her she was crazy or killed her yourself so at least then the death would have been quick and merciful. If the Voltur get a hold of her there's not telling what they'll do to her just to find out how much she knows and to find out what the extent of her abilities are. If can shield her mind from you as a human just imaging what she could do as a vampire. You've got to come up with something to push her away Edward." Katherine did not want to see an innocent human get hurt because she knew too much. If Katherine knew the Volturi they would either kill Bella or give her the option to join them. There really was no other alternative for the girl and as Katherine chewed on her lower lip she wondered what could be done to send the girl running away from Edward.
"What exactly have you told her Edward? What if anything have you said to her to discourage her from wanting anything to do with you?" Katherine asked as she racked her brains for what might get her to run away from a guy. Staring at Edward, Katherine leaned against the railing as she began to quietly mutter to herself and looked out over the lake.
"Say he's got some deadly disease? No she knows he's a vampire and we don't get sick. Perhaps he can act completely disgusting and gross her out? No with his luck she'd think him belching or scratching his armpits is endearing. Maybe he can behave like a sexist pig? No again with his luck she'd be turned on by him bossing and pushing her around...." One after another, Katherine came up with an idea for how Edward could attempt to turn Bella off but nothing she could think of seemed right for her. If there was one thing that Katherine had never liked about her own sex it was that they were so damn unpredictable. What repulsed one woman could be a huge turn on to another. That was also one of the downfalls to women's lib that Katherine had found as well. Because of the time and era she had grown up in, Katherine enjoyed when a man pulled out her seat for her or held open the door to let her pass. Ever since women's lib had passed Katherine felt sorry for a man because they never knew if a woman was like Katherine and wanted to be treated like a lady or if a woman would smack them for thinking they were the weaker sex. It was a confusing time to be a man and Katherine had to admit that she felt sorry for them.
Looking back up at Edward Katherine gave him an apologetic smile. She really wanted to come up with a solution to his problem but she had no clue what would turn off this Bella girl to him. Was there anything? As an idea formed in her mind, Katherine felt her anger up quickly and as she looked at Edward, Katherine tried to keep her voice level as she asked: "She's not trying to use you is she Edward? You know how these teenage girls are and how Hollywood has romanticized us. You don't think she's trying to use you to turn her so that she can in turn change her fiancee so that they can live forever do you?"
Katherine knew that she shouldn't be jumping to a conclusion like that but when the idea had entered her mind she had seen red. If Bella was trying to use Edward so that she and her fiancee could live forever, Bella had another thing coming. Nobody used Katherine's friends like that and if Bella tried then Katherine would forget the rules she had set up for herself about only killing murderers and rapist and she would kill Bella without hesitation. Katherine tried to get along with everybody for the most part but if you hurt somebody that she cared about then you had better head for the hills and never enter a civilized society again.

Her reaction was one he yet again expected genuine shock, disbelief, and possible fear. Fear for both he and Bella, he smiled lightly. That was Katherine, always thinking of others before herself, always thinking of an alternative. She knows about us? Oh god Edward this is a lot more complicated then I thought. You should have told her she was crazy or killed her yourself so at least then the death would have been quick and merciful. Katherine shrieked, and Edward face fell, was she serious? kill her, that would of simply done more damage than good and that was something he couldn't of allowed. "No, absolutely not. If I would of killed her Katherine, I would of exposed all of us to many people, I can't and won't kill her." he stated his tone serious, and his expression soon matched it. "Besides, no one has to know Katherine, Bella isn't going to tell anyone, who would believe her? she's not like that..she's different." he admitted although was finding it hard to explain himself just how different Bella was from everyone else, particularly every human.
--If the Volturi get a hold of her there's no telling what they'll do to her just to find out how much she knows and to find out what the extent of her abilities are. If can shield her mind from you as a human just imaging what she could do as a vampire. You've got to come up with something to push her away Edward. Edward shook his head, yes the volturi would only if they found out. Which they wouldn't he'd make sure of that. "I know what they can do Katherine, but they won't know, won't find out. I won't let them, and I won't let them hurt Bella. Yes, I know I need to stay away from her I'm doing just that. But that doesn't mean that I don't care about her." he admitted truthfully, that was one thing he could not lie about. When she questioned him about what he had actually told her, he paused for the moment before he replied. "I didn't tell her anything, that's the point. She found out, I told her that I'm no good for her, that it's better that we aren't friends, but she's persistent and stubborn.." he added, shaking his head although the barest glimpse of a smile was visible.
He listened to her ramblings and found himself smiling further, occasionally even laughing at the odd tone, he shook his head barely even believing that Katherine was creating cover stories for him, none of them would work, he knew that because he had even tried a majority of them himself. Folding his arms across his broad chest, he then lent back against the railing. Suddenly her expression changed and Edward could practically see the anger coming off of her, for one thing during his human life he had always been good at reading Humans in general be it body language or expression he supposed that was why he was stuck with the talent he had currently.
She's not trying to use you is she Edward? You know how these teenage girls are and how Hollywood has romanticized us. You don't think she's trying to use you to turn her so that she can in turn change her fiancee so that they can live forever do you? Katherine commented and Edward resisted the urge to show his own anger, that Katherine would even think such a thing. He suddenly felt extremely possessive and overly protective. "You don't even know her, how can you even consider Bella would do that?" he snapped, as the brief surprise flickered over Katherine's face he sighed it wasn't like him to snap so often. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap, but Bella wouldn't do that, besides, trust me on this if that was the case she certainly wouldn't have a fiancee for long." he commented given the sheer fact Bella's fiancee was a wolf, natural enemy of the vampire.
Just then the little ball of fluff came padding over to the pair of them, soaked through, Edward had barely even realized it was raining until now, when a dribble of moisture trailed down his face, had he really not realized? his shirt was practically soak, given the few patches of dry, they had been partly undercover but that did not protect him from rain in general, but the dog on the other hand... As soon as the creature approached them, and stopped before him, he shook violently spraying Edward with water, so much so it splotched his only remaining dry patches of shirt, before it barked and disappeared off indoor. With a small expression of irritation he looked to Katherine. "I'm beginning to think your dog really doesn't like me." He muttered, trying to change onto a more lighter subject.

***** "I'm sorry if I upset you Edward but I don't trust the female gender. You have no idea of the conniving manipulative tendencies that the fairer sex possessive. Every time I went to tea with friends or I went shopping with the other girls in our social group, I had to listen to their plans. Plans to seduce so and so. Plans to manipulate such and such a person so that they could get what they wanted. I'll give this Bella girl the benefit of the doubt for your sake Edward but she does anything to double cross you or puts you in harms way then I'm sorry. I won't be held responsible for my actions if she proves to be just like the other ninety nine percent of women that I've come across." Katherine said simply and with a small shrug of her shoulders. Katherine knew that not every woman in the world was a double crossing, backstabbing bitch which was why she left that one percent out. However given her experience with women, Katherine just didn't trust her own gender.
Looking down towards her puppy as he came bounding up to them, Katherine had to smile at his appearance until he came to a stop in front of Edward and shook himself. Eyes widening, Katherine took a step forward as she said: "Hey now! Stop that."
By that the time her puppy had began to head towards the house muttering 'that'll teach you to give me dirty looks. Looking towards Edward as he commented on how he thought her dog didn't like him, Katherine tilted her head to the side and crossed her arms over her chest. Looking back at the puppy before looking towards Edward again, Katherine shook her head and said: "Well what are you giving him dirty looks for. He's just a puppy and there's no reason to be giving him dirty looks."
Katherine couldn't help feeling like a mother between two fighting kids which made her want to laugh. She hadn't had her puppy long but she knew he normally wouldn't h ave done something like that. Something had happened between the two that had provoked the young creature into spraying Edward with water. Of course Katherine knew better then to actually pick a side since picking a side between two arguing males was never the smartest thing in the world a women could do. Instead she took a step toward the door and stood in the doorway as she looked at Edward. "Care to come in out of the rain. I've just moved in but if you want I can look through all my boxes to get you something to wear. It's not much but I know I have a couple men's shirts since they make pretty comfortable clothing to sleep and lounge around the house in."
Although Katherine had always been big on appearance and always wore clothing that was at the height of fashion, she had always had a thing for men's shirts. She bought a few of them every now and then since sometimes she just felt like wearing baggy clothing. She was pretty sure she might even have a pair of sweats but she wasn't sure if Edward would want to wear the clothing or just hang out and give himself a chance to dry off.

Edward listened to Katherine's rant, and nodded where needed he could see her reason perfectly well, and he could understand most of it, it did make sense, the opposite sex, did have a tendency to be rather irrational and nonchalant. Perhaps even misleading, he wasn't the sexiest type, far from it, although he supposed partly it had rubbed off on him from his father, who bluntly told him the reason for women, namely they looked good on the arm, did well to secure finances, and should do as they were told when asked. That was something he had never agreed with but he hadn't dared answer back to his father, who held Edward in such high prospects. Shaking his head idly to himself he returned back to the present time and listened to the rest of what Katherine said. When she finally finished, Edward nodded and smiled softly. "Thank you, I appreciate it, but I doubt very much that will even be needed." he added before he was soon sprayed by a irritated looking dog. After Katherine had scolded the creature, he glanced down at his now sodden shirt, when had it even started to rain?
However, Katherine next comment caught him by surprise, she certainly could communicate with animals and vice versa. Well what are you giving him dirty looks for. He's just a puppy and there's no reason to be giving him dirty looks. She questioned and Edward looked to the dog who was wondering of held held high and tail wagging, oddly smug looking. "Tattle tale." he commented as a brief flicker of amusement danced over his features. "Well he was barking in an aggressive manor at me earlier, as I walked past your car, I simply looked a him, indicating for him to quieten down." he admitted as he ducked under the shelter and completely sheltered himself from the rain then.
Care to come in out of the rain. I've just moved in but if you want I can look through all my boxes to get you something to wear. It's not much but I know I have a couple men's shirts since they make pretty comfortable clothing to sleep and lounge around the house in. Katherine offered, it was perhaps the best idea. Nodding Edward smiled, the corners of his lips partly lifting into a crooked smile. "That would perhaps be wise." He stated as he then followed Katherine indoor and pulled the doors shut behind him, he watched for a moment as the rain simply pelted it down splashes obvious on the lake, even against the wood work of her balcony. Luckily he had missed the most of rain, he still couldn't quite fathom how he hadn't noticed it was even raining. Then again why would he? It wasn't like he could feel it.
Turning around to Katherine Edward commented "Yes please to the shirt if you do not mind, I think I shall wait until it dries than I should really be heading back, I'm sorry to of been such a nuisance. I'm sure your eager to unpack.." He stated as he moved into the adjoining bathroom, and picked up one of the towels that had been kindly placed, for show. Pushing the door a fraction of the way closed. Edward removed his shirt. Although Katherine had probably seen all that there was to see. Edward still held some form of modesty. As he shrugged out of his shirt, he soon dabbed himself dry, or as dry as possible. His trousers were not all that wet, perhaps slightly damp but that he could live with and was something he certainly wouldn't be removing in front of a girl any time soon. Folding the towel he hung it back up to dry, and hesitated for the moment, did he stay in here, or go and get the shirt. Shaking his head he opened the door, never had he ever pictured himself in such a fashion. Still the sooner he got a shirt on the better it was.
Glancing around he hadn't realized just how many boxes she had finally unloaded. Pausing further he pressed his lips in a tight line. "Would you like any help unpacking?" he offered softly before he then held up his soaked shirt. "Where would you like me to put it?" He questioned and he felt oddly aware that he was indeed shirtless in front of an ex lover, and the thought alone made him feel uncomfortable. Self conscious even, he wasn't the type to wonder around in front of people without his shirt. Modesty and all.

***** "He was only following orders. I told him to protect the car and not let anybody get too close." Katherine said with a smile as she walked into the house with Edward. She supposed she could have been more specific with the puppy and told him to only park if somebody actually touched the car but it was too late for the shoulda, coulda, woulda's. She had to resist the urge to laugh at Edward calling her puppy a tattle tale. Of course he was a tattle tale. Her puppy wasn't even a year old yet. He told Katherine everything and anything that happened that he thought might interest his mistress. Of course most of those things were far from interesting to the vampiress but as long as her puppy was happy then so was she.
As Edward stepped into her bathroom, Katherine watched her puppy head towards the fireplace before turning to look at her. In a somewhat whinny voice, the puppy asked her to start up the fireplace so that the fire could warm him up. With a soft smile, Katherine nodded since she knew her puppy was probably cold from being wet and it was a bit cooler outside. So as she made her way to the fireplace, Katherine watched her puppy make himself comfortable in front of it before she had even started up the fire. Of course it didn't take her long to start it up and when she did she heard Edward's voice behind her which caused her to turn around and face her ex lover.
Katherine couldn't help herself from internally dropping her jaw. Edward still looked as good as the last time she'd seen him with no shirt on, maybe even a bit better. Edward had been her first and only lover but he still took her breath away. Shaking herself out of her thoughts, Katherine moved towards one of the nearby boxes before she opened up the lid then pulled out a large black t-shirt. It was a shirt that she usually lounged around the house in and she hoped that Edward didn't mind the fact that her scent was all over it. She knew most guys expected for there to be a hint of a masculine scent on a man's shirt but the only scent on any of the clothing in Katherine's boxes was Katherine's. She hadn't taken on any lovers during her time as a vampire since to her sex was something you did with somebody you cared about. Not just somebody who happened to be there.
"Hope it fits ok." Katherine said with a small smile as she held out the black shirt and handed it to Edward before taking his shirt and heading towards the wash room. After tossing Edward's shirt in the wash, Katherine walked back out into the living room and smiled at Edward. "I put your shirt in the wash. Combined with drying time it'll take a little over an hour. Is that ok?"

He was only following orders. I told him to protect the car and not let anybody get too close. Katherine commented defending her dog, Edward looked to the mutt and said nothing more than tattle tale. The dog simply barked at him, and Edward turned to it slightly and said calmly. "Well I don't like you either." he stated before he turned and headed into the bathroom, yes that was perhaps as childish as he had ever been given his 100 and so years of being a vampire, he had simply forgotten how fun it was to be around Katherine once again, like past times, she always did tend to bring out his rebellious side. Amusing as it was.
Nodding to her, he soon stripped free of his soaked shirt and emerged moments later, presenting Katherine with his sodden shirt. Her expression, and lack of reply for the most part, caused him to advert his eyes. Old times indeed. Soon enough Katherine finally found a large black t-shirt. Katherine scent coated it and it was a mixture of her scent combined with perfume. Clearly it was one she tended to live in given the sheer richness of it.
Hope it fits ok. I put your shirt in the wash. Combined with drying time it'll take a little over an hour. Is that ok? Accepting it Edward pulled it on over his head and it came to rest oddly well across his arms and torso, given how large it had looked it was nothing compared to what it was on. "It's fine thank you, and yes. No problem." He stated with a small smile, The black t-shirt didn't do well to hid his recently muscular arms and sculptured chest. Edward wasn't one for tight fitting t-shirts other than jeans so this shirt, only caused further glimpse of self-consciousness to show. Even vampires got self-conscious.
Brushing the thought aside he approached Katherine and gestured to the many boxes. "Would you like any help unpacking anything? We can get this place of yours sorted?" he offered, besides it would provide them with a chance to catch up, and currently Edwards was trying to find a decent enough excuse not to face his family, or Bella for that matter, especially at school. Maybe he could spend his time helping Katherine instead? an escape as it was. The thing that niggled at his mind, was how was he even supposed to face Bella now, he couldn't exactly be friends with her, the thought of her with someone else did odd things to him, and created emotions he didn't like, nor had he ever really experienced, although perhaps he had? but as a human.
Then there was his family, what was he supposed to say to them? other than the fact he wanted, to and needed to get away for a bit. Looking up to Katherine who had been watching him intently he offered her a small smile. "I was thinking, that I may have to leave for a while..get away from forks and clear my mind, before I do anything I regret, and before I create any more problems than there already is..what do you think I should do?" He questioned Katherine out loud, looking from some sort of advice other than Emmett's which was along the lines of 'kill her' or 'sod what he thinks' Still he certainly couldn't be the reason why Bella ended her future so suddenly, she had the chance and he wanted her to take it, and him being around certainly wasn't helping matters.

***** "Sure. It's better then trying to do it all on my own." Katherine said with a smile as Edward pulled her shirt on over his head. Turning to look at her puppy, Katherine was not surprised to see him already asleep in front of the fire so with a smile on her lips she turned and made her way towards one of the nearby boxes. Pulling open the lid, Katherine saw it was a bunch of her clothes so she picked it up and turned to look at Edward. She was about to tell him that they should sort the boxes and put them in the room they belonged in so it would make unpacking easier but before she could Edward was telling her about his plan to leave for a while. When he asked her her opinion, Katherine thought about it for a few seconds before setting down her box and motioning for Edward to take a seat on a nearby couch.
"Do you really feel like you have to leave the area or just like you need some time to yourself? You know you're more then welcome to stay here if you'd like to clear your head." Katherine said as she took a seat on the same couch and faced Edward. Draping an arm over the back of the couch, Katherine tucked one leg under the other and stared at the man who had not only been her fiancee but who had also been her best friend. The thought that Edward felt the need to leave kind of made Katherine feel a bit irritated at this Bella but she knew better then to say anything about it. She didn't like the fact that Bella had put Edward into a position where he felt he had to leave because he was going to cause problems if he didn't, but she had promised Edward she'd give Bella the benefit of the doubt so she would.
"If you'd like we can even stay in town for a few days so that you can have complete solitude." Katherine quickly added even though she heard her puppy's head lift because of the rattling of his collar before his thoughts invaded hers with: "But I don't want to leave. It's our house! Why should we have to leave?!"
Choosing to ignore the whining of her puppy, Katherine knew he was watching her and Edward and he wasn't too happy at the thought of staying in a motel or anything. Of course he wasn't going to have a choice. Forks was Edwards home and she didn't believe that anybody should feel like they had to leave their home just because of somebody else. If Bella wanted to leave Katherine wasn't going to stop her but she was not about to let Edward runaway. She knew how hard it was for a vampire to find a place to call home and if Edward had found that here, she was not about to let anybody take that away from him. Sure she may have liked for him to join her in Italy with the Volturi but she wasn't about to force him into it. It just wasn't in her nature to force anybody she cared about into do anything they didn't want to do.
"If you really want to leave I can join you so you're not alone. I mean if you don't mind the company." Katherine said as she was assaulted again by her puppy's thoughts on the matter. As he told her that he didn't want to travel around with Edward, Katherine turned to look at him and responded with she could just ask Edward's brother and father to watch him. The look in her puppy's eyes showed her he wasn't a big fan of that idea either but rather then continue to argue with her, the husky just turned and looked at the fireplace. Turning her own attention back to Edward, Katherine smiled slightly. She didn't know if Edward would welcome the company or not but she didn't want him to feel like he was alone in this situation. No matter what, she wanted him to know that she would be there for him.

After asking her if she needed help he was pleased that she agreed to it, and accepted his offer, at least now he had a decent excuse as to escape everything, and by helping Katherine maybe it would help keep his mind occupied? Nodding his small thanks he picked up a box and placed it to the side as he slightly begun to look through it, in this box there were a mixture of books and some photographs. Pushing the box to the side he pulled another one close, and begun to look through the contents of it. Yet he had paused in order to tell Katherine what was on his mind, and what had been troubling him. Her reply, wasn't as bad as he had thought, if anything he had almost expected her to be enraged that he would even suggest such a thing, but she seemed calm, perhaps even understanding to an extent?
Do you really feel like you have to leave the area or just like you need some time to yourself? You know you're more then welcome to stay here if you'd like to clear your head. Katherine offered and Edward smiled it was an intriguing offer he would more than willing accept but he didn't want to be a nuisance. "The idea sounds wonderful, thank you. But I don't wish to be of any burden to you. I think what I really need is just a break away from school, Emmett and her" Edward explained with a soft sigh as he continued to idly sort through the boxes yet in a more automatic sort of way.
If you'd like we can even stay in town for a few days so that you can have complete solitude. Edward smiled again, Katherine had always been the considerate one. "No it's perfectly fine, I really do not wish to be of any trouble..but if that is alright with you, I would like to stay with you for a few days, after that I don't know but I just need a break..by helping you unpack it will help keep me occupied." he stated as he put another box to the side he didn't want to stop, nor did he really wish to talk about it, he just wanted to forget and keeping busy was the best way for it.
If you really want to leave I can join you so you're not alone. I mean if you don't mind the company. Looking up Edward smiled. "Thank you Katherine, you were always the one to take care of most problems. But, as I said, here in your home is peace enough for me, if you do not mind my staying that is? besides you have only just moved here, it's to soon for you, yourself to leave." He commented as he eventually stopped for a moment and seated himself on the floor, Katherine was one he could always trust always tell if there was a problem, and he always knew she would sort it out in the end.
For that he was thankful. If he was to pay owe Katherine for all the times she had sorted him out, he'd been in deep debt. "I'd rather not leave, Forks is the one place I can call home, then I met Bella and everything fell apart. Just my luck to want the one thing I can't have." he said mostly to himself with a humorless laugh as he rubbed the back of his neck, he felt physically and emotionally drained yet he knew he was far from tired. Perhaps the past few days were beginning to take their toll on him.

***** "It's a huge house Edward with more then enough room for the two of us and you're welcome to stay with me for as long as you like." Katherine said with a smile as she kept her eyes on the man in front of her. She wished that she could take away the obvious stress he was dealing with but she wasn't entirely sure of how she could do that. The vampire in her was saying if she just got rid of Bella then Edward's problem would be solved. The human in her though was telling her getting rid of Bella might solve one problem but it would create a whole new set of problems and she just couldn't do that to Edward.
As a human Katherine knew she was attractive and she knew that the guys in their circle of friends had eyed her and valued her appearance over her personality. It was why Katherine hadn't argued the arranged marriage her parents had set between her and Edward with his parents. He had been the only man in her life to see her as a person and didn't see her as just a piece of arm candy who could help elevate his social standings. Edward had been the best friend she could ever have ever hoped for and she was determined to do what she could to help see him through this dilemma with the human.
"I know this isn't exactly the ideal situation but have you considered maybe going out with her and her fiancee? Maybe seeing her with him and seeing how happy she is with him may help to quiet your own feelings towards her?" Katherine said with a shrug of her shoulders even though she wasn't entirely convinced that that was the best thing to do. If anything it might make things worse, especially if Bella did something to tip off her fiancee that there was something going on between her and Edward. As an after thought, Katherine quickly added: "Or maybe you if you wanted you could go out and watch her with her fiancee? I know it sounds kind of stalker like but maybe if you see her out on a date with her fiancee and you see how happy she is, maybe it might help to quiet some of those feelings that you're having?"
Smiling slightly, Katherine knew her ideas were pretty far fetched and she jokingly added: "Of course there's always the option of throwing yourself headfirst into the dating pool and dating one girl after another in the hopes you'll find somebody to take your mind off of her."

It's a huge house Edward with more then enough room for the two of us and you're welcome to stay with me for as long as you like. Katherine offered him and Edward smiled gladly, at least he knew now that he had somewhere to stay for a while..was he hiding? perhaps.. no doubt he was seen as a coward, he hoped not, his reasons where his own, and it was because of these reasons that led to his actions, and he knew without a doubt Katherine understood at least on some level, and he could not of been more grateful then what he was at the current time. He would have to find away to repay her somehow and some when and by some means. For a long while Edward simply sat there his knees brought up and he rested his elbows on them, his expression thoughtful, what was he to do in such a situation? He doubted he was strong enough to even see Bella, knowing that she was with someone else. Although he was strong on the outside, he was no where near as strong on the inside, his cold, dead heart felt frozen, quite literally. As if nothing was there but genuine pain and disappointment.
At Katherine next comment Edward very much resisted the urge to laugh, if only it was that simple then everything would be just fine. I know this isn't exactly the ideal situation but have you considered maybe going out with her and her fiancee? Maybe seeing her with him and seeing how happy she is with him may help to quiet your own feelings to wards her? Still none the less Edward could not help but smile as he shook his head, there was a certain thing he had not told Katherine, for one thing he hadn't any idea how she would react. "If it was that easy Katherine, I would be doing that, at this moment. But her fiancee happens to be our mortal enemy, of old. If I was to go near him the only outcome of it would be spilled blood I dare say, and that would do no one a favor." he admitted as he ran a pale hand through his hair. "Besides.. I know she's happy. I know this but a part of me won't accept it. Yet the rational side knows that with her staying with Jacob Black, Bella has a better chance at a life, and a future. What can I possibly give her?" He stated, what was there to give his heart, his body and maybe even his soul, but that was nothing in comparison to what Jacob could give Bella. Jacob could give her, a future, a life, a family of her own. Where as Edward could do nothing, would always remain as he was, as she got older..with no family. He shook his head, he couldn't take that away from her.
Even as Katherine continued to suggest ways, and solutions. It was no use, Edward had made his mind up, it was better for all of them, "Besides, Bella in time will forget me, as all humans do. Maybe I'll forget her, although I doubt it. I won't condemn her life for the sake of my selfish needs." He admitted, as it was he could barely even touch her without the fear of hurting her, barely even be near her without the fear of attacking her. That wasn't what relationships where like. Looking up to Katherine within the next moment he caught her teasing, joking smile. Trust Katherine to try and lighten the mood no matter which way. Of course there's always the option of throwing yourself headfirst into the dating pool and dating one girl after another in the hopes you'll find somebody to take your mind off of her. Yet as he listened to her, it made sense, it was possible he could, yet.. "No..that's not me, I won't date another knowing I can give them no more than my body, as my heart is already taken by another..I couldn't do that to anyone, besides the fear of hurting them would be far to great..then again.." he paused, and looked directly to Katherine again, meeting and holding her gaze, maybe, just maybe. "Then..theres you." he moved and came to stand before her. "What about it Katherine..You and I? perhaps I have been wrong..perhaps I was deluded, can we not try? once more? Maybe there is still someone out there for me, and my mind's clouded by the lust for her blood, that I cannot see what is right before me?" He stated, his tone serious.
