general appearance: When Embry is in his human form he is tall and more slender than the rest of his friends. Embry has large muscles and black hair that he keeps cut very short. He is built like the other shifters, and shares the same tribal tatoo on his shoulder like they all have. While in wolf form Embry is more sleeker than the rest of the pack which accounts for how swift and fast he is. Embry has gray fur with black spots.

Embry is described as being more shy and quieter than the rest of the pack. He is sometimes shy when he first meets someone, but as they get to know him he is anything but. Embry is very playful and loves a good challenge and prank. Embry loves being around his pack brothers and hanging out. He is very loyal and would do anything for his pack, including taking all the yelling his mother does to protect their secret. Embry is more caring and loving than his pack brothers although there is not an outlet for it because he has never imprinted.

Embry's mother, Mrs. Call, was a woman from the Makah tribe who moved to La Push when she was pregnant with him, and it was assumed that she had left his father with the Makahs. However, when Embry phased in early 2006, it became apparent that his father was Billy Black, Quil Ateara Junior or Joshua Uley as the shapeshifting traits are inherited only within the Quileute tribe. All three were happily married at the time of Embry's conception, causing some stress in the pack as Quil Ateara, Jacob Black, and Sam Uley all wonder which of them has a half-brother. It is hoped that Embry is Sam's half-brother, as Sam's father already has a bad record, abandoning his wife when Sam was very young. If his father were Quil Ateara Junior or Billy Black, there could be more new disputes among the people at La Push.
Some time during his early life, Embry became friends with Quil and Jacob, remaining close to them throughout their teenage years. His mother's ignorance about the existence of shapeshifters is a hardship, as he cannot explain why he's never home at night when she checks on him. She believes that he's going through a rebellious stage, and yells at him every morning. Embry takes it in silence, but the pack asked Sam to cut him some slack and let his mom in on the secret. Embry himself refused, deciding that the secret was too important. When Jacob split from Sam Embry followed.

Embry was patrolling the area around the beach. The shifter had taken his time sniffing every smell that came across that wasn't familiar. The smells were not from vampire they were human, and he figured it was tourists wandering around the rez. Washington's leaves were turning colors and that brought in lots of tourists. The smells were human though and he was thankful. The red haired vampire hadn't been seen in over a week and the pack was hoping she was gone.
When Embry had went over and over again his patrol he phased back and changed into a set of clothes he had stashed behind a tree. Embry walked from the forest onto the beach. The cool air felt like heaven against his hot skin. Embry scanned the beach and smiled as he saw a familiar sight: Bella. Embry snuck up behind her and plopped down beside her with a huge grin on his face
