***** Smirking as Ace took her cell phone from her. Rachel had to shake her head slightly from side to side at his arrogance. He could have just as easily given her the number so she could program it into her phone on her own but instead he had taken her cell from her and put his number in himself. Although she hadn't known Ace long, Rachel couldn't help thinking that the move was characteristically Ace. Normally arrogant guys were a huge turnoff for her but this time the arrogance had softened somewhat. When she had first met him Rachel had wanted to slap Ace but had stopped herself since they were in a public store and now she just wanted him to kiss her again? Rachel couldn't help feeling extremely confused as she watched Ace program his number into her phone, especially given the fact that she still doubted he was completely human.
"I'll talk to my dad today or tomorrow so hopefully I'll be able to give a call within a couple days. If not then I'll give you a call next week at the latest." Rachel said with a smile before Ace had slipped his fingers into the strands of her hair and was asking her if he could kiss her again. Before Rachel could respond, Ace had pressed his lips against hers lightly. Rachel had just barely had a chance to rest the palms of her hands lightly on his chest before he was pulling away from her and turning around. Left standing by her open door, Rachel watched Ace as he disappeared from sight before she shook herself free of her daydreams and slipped into her car.
After making sure she was strapped in, Rachel started up her car and pulled out of her spot. After cutting through the parking lot, Rachel pulled out into the street and headed for the reservation. Her eyes were on the road ahead of her but her mind was on Ace. The kisses had been intense, at least in her opinion. The last one had been innocent and chaste but it had still sent a chill down her spine and caused the butterflies in her stomach to go into overdrive. Watching the road ahead of her as she made her way out of Forks, Rachel's thought took her to her dad and her brother. Jacob may have been younger then her but he was still fiercely protective of her and she doubted if either he or their father would be happy if they knew that Rachel had been kissing a guy she had only known for maybe a couple of hours.
As Rachel pulled into the reservation about fifteen minutes later, she let her eyes travel over the people she had grown up. Every person here believed in the cold one legends. Hell they had even stopped going to Forks Hospital because of the story that Dr. Carlisle and his sons were cold ones that had been in the area before. Of course they were a different kind of cold one. They didn't feed from humans but still. Would her people believe that Ace was a cold one if she were to present her evidence. Then again he hadn't even tried to feed from her so maybe he wasn't one and she was just blowing things out of proportion.
Pulling into the driveway of her family's home, Rachel smiled when she saw her younger brother in the front yard doing some yard work. Shutting off her engine, Rachel pushed open her door then called out to Jacob: "Hey Jake can you give me a hand with the groceries?"

Pulling the rake through the the short grass absentmindedly, Jake was left with plenty of time to think about anything and everything. Mostly he was thinking about everything that had been going on. Leah was still her usual pain in the butt, Bella still had a fear of saying the word wedding and he was still a shifter. Having not been paying attention, he ended up smacking himself in the shin with the rake. Swearing softly, he pushed the pain to the back of his mind but it was tender even when he did succeed in doing that. Starting to rake once more, after a few minutes of standing still, Jake continued on with the raking, making sure that he was paying attention to what he was doing. But it was only a few moments before he once more stopped raking, leaning forward and holding his side as he started laughing uncontrollably.
He couldn't help it, the memory of himself doing something that was just so stupid. It seemed every time he tried to stand straight and resume his raking, he burst out in laughter, almost shouting. That was how loud he was. Finally he was having trouble breathing, and had to take deep breaths. Finally he calmed down and once more resumed his raking duties. I wonder how that would look to someone who didn't know the story behind it. He cracked a grin but managed to keep himself upright and not laughing, although not by much.
The smooth strokes of the rake going constantly in a slow, lulling motion. Finally, Jake once more descended into a relaxed, thinking state, almost doing the raking mechanically. However the purr of an engine drove Jake out of his stupor. Looking up at his name, he grinned happily. He and Rach had mostly gotten along growing up and when he was asked to help with the groceries, he happily dropped the rake, moving towards the car, saying in a happy tone, "Hey, Rach, no problem, anything to get me away from that dumb rake." Reaching the drivers door, he leaned on it for a moment, looking in and seeing some of the groceries were on the other side of the car. Walking around, he asked, " So, been anywhere besides the grocery store?"
Pulling on the handle, he opened the door, Jake leaned in, breathing in as he did so. His eyes grew wide at what he smelled, and forgetting the groceries entirely, he leaned towards the passenger seat. He easily smelled the painful smell that reminded him of straight bleach. Leaving the groceries, he walked quickly over to Rachel, leaning towards her and once more breathing in. The same smell was all over her. " Rachel, who were you with?" His tone was harsh, much harsher then he had thought. But the smell of vampire was all over her and her passenger seat and he had to know what she had been with and why. ___________________________________________________________________________ Word Count 492 Inspiration I'm listening to Wedding Crashers as it plays. ***** Rachel smiled as she grabbed her purse then watched her brother move towards the passenger seat. Moving towards the backseat of her car, Rachel opened the door and was about to pull out some of the bags from there when she realized her brother was standing next to her. Staring at him in surprise as he seemed to be sniffing her, Rachel was about to ask him what the heck he was doing when he asked her who she had been with. Eyes widening, Rachel tilted her head down and took a deep breath of her own. Maybe there was a slight hint of Ace's cologne on her body but it wasn't that strong. How had her brother even picked up on it? Were guys able to detect cologne no matter how faint it was?
Eyes narrowing slightly at the tone her brother had used, Rachel looked up into his eyes and crossed her arms over her chest. She knew it was somewhat childish but Rachel was not about to let her brother get away with talking to her like that. He was the younger sibling, not her, and he would talk to her with the respect that she deserved. Doing her best to keep her tone leveled so she wouldn't fly off the handle, Rachel glared at her brother and said: "First off Jacob, I don't like you tone. I'm not one of your friends that you can order around. Second, I was out with a friend. I had to go buy new cleats for soccer and he joined me there as well as grocery shopping. Not that it's any concern of yours."
Standing her ground, Rachel wondered if this was how it would go over with her father. She knew her brother and father could be over protective of her but for Jacob to act like this just because Rachel had been out with a guy was completely unacceptable in her eyes. It wasn't as if Rachel made a habit of hooking up with random guys and the fact that her brother was treating her like she had just been out sleeping with a stranger really irritated her.
Turning away from her brother, Rachel grabbed a couple bags of groceries then moved around him and headed for the house. She hoped her dad wasn't home because if he was and he saw Jacob acting like this then she knew there was no way in hell he'd let her invite Ace over for dinner. Her father seemed to treat Jacob with a lot more respect recently and it was almost as if Jacob was the head of the house now since his father never complained about Jacob staying out late but if Rachel was out past nine she got lectured. Part of her wanted to say it was because she was a girl but it just didn't feel like that was it at all. Rachel felt like there was something more going on but she couldn't put her finger on it.

Jacob knew that stance. He was about to get told off and really, what had he expected? It was just the fact that both his sister and her car smelled like a vampire and Rachel was his sister. He had to protect her and if he had to be harsh and bossy to get to the truth then he would. Partially listening to Rachel's spiel, Jake also started thinking about how he could find out the truth without resorting to running to their dad like he was five. Or Sam for that matter. Now that he was alpha of his own pack he felt like he had to try and do things by himself or at least not run to the other pack every time something went wrong.
"I know, my tone sucks and you're not someone I can boss around." Jake said that to appease his sister and try and show he was actually listening at least somewhat. "And I'm your brother so it is a concern of mine. Who is he?" Jake let Rachel stand her ground, but he also stood his, tapping his foot. He was wondering if trying to charm the information out of her would go over better. But thinking about it, he also figured that it would take a little more time. It could be a last resort though. Better to try and bug the information out of her at the moment. Once Rachel turned, Jake walked forward, grabbing most of the grocery bags that had been left when Rachel had gone in.
Speeding up, Jake easily caught up to Rachel as she walked towards the house. "Come on, Rach, tell me who he is. I'm dying to know." Jake adopted a pleading tone, looking over at her with eyes that were wide and anyone could tell he was trying to beg. His face looked a little funny as he stuck his bottom lip out, but he couldn't see himself and so he could never laugh at himself. " Just his first name, I can't find him with just that, now can I? You know you want to." Jake grinned as he tried to wheedle the name out of Rachel. This was the much funner method as it turned out.
Even if he got only one name, he would do his best to find the....thing. ___________________________________________________________________________ Word Count 392 Inspiration I'm listening to Wedding Crashers as it plays. Tags Rachel Status Complete Template By Arro @ Caution 2.0

***** Rachel sighed as her brother caught up to her on her way into the house carrying a bag of groceries. She heard him pleading with her to give him the guys name and she sighed slightly before opening the door. She knew that she was going to have to give him and her father a name if she wanted to be allowed to invite Ace over for dinner either that week or the following week. So after pushing open the door and walking into the house, Rachel made her way towards the kitchen. As she began to unpack the bags of groceries, Rachel glanced at her brother.
"His name is Ace. I met him at Newton's when I went to pick up a pair of cleats for soccer and some new running shoes. I've invited him over for dinner but it won't be until either later this week or next week. I wanted to make sure dad was ok with it first." Rachel said. She purposely left out the fact that she also wanted to see if Jacob would be ok with it since she was getting the impression that Jacob wasn't too keen on the idea of his sister dating anybody. She knew that even if they didn't say anything, her father and brother wanted her to date a Quiluete. While Rachel wouldn't mind dating one of their people, she hadn't found one yet that made her heart race the way Ace had so far.
Moving around the kitchen, Rachel began to put the cans and boxes of groceries where they belonged and waited to see what her brother would say. Was he going to throw a fit about her bringing home a stranger? Was he going to thrown a fit because their family knew nothing about Ace or his family? With the guys on the reservation, everybody pretty much knew everybody's family history. The fact that Rachel's family were supposed to be direct descendants of Taha Aki made Rachel a bit cautious about dating guys on the reservation. Not all of them, but a few of them wanted to get with Rachel just because of the power her children could hypothetically inherit.
Turning to look at her brother, Rachel wondered what was going through his mind right then. She really wasn't in the mood for a fight so she could only pray that he didn't try to start one over Ace.

Jake now had a name. Ace. All he needed now was to track the scent to find the bloodsucker. He'd also have to talk to the pack. They'd know probably the moment he shifted but it always looked good to tell them as if he intended to, not just read it off of his mind. The whole mind reading thing was a little annoying.
Jake stopped in his steps right before the entrance to the kitchen and thoughts the moment that Rachel said anything about having the thing over foro dinner. He would have dropped the bags but hi muscles had tightened not relaxed. He did not want the vampire getting any nearer to his sister then he already was. And he certainly didn't want the bloodsucker finding out about the wolves if he didn't know already. It would be much easier to take him down if he didn't know about them. He also didn't need a vampire on his or Sam's territory.
He started walking slowly into the kitchen, setting the bags on the table. He started to consider the benefits of the bloodsucker coming over for dinner. It would mean he had a face to put to the name and it would certainly be easier to take him down instead of anybody else. It would also make tracking him easier. In fact they might even be able to take him down after he left. It would be much easier and so he made the decision.
He flopped down into a chair, leaving his sister to put the grocerie away. It got a little crowded if they were both at the cupboards, trying to put things where they belonged and so he turned his expression into a bit of a happy expression, the grin partially forced. Although all he had to do was think of the satifaction of taking the vampire down and it grew bigger. " That might not be too bad. I'd rather meet the...guy then have you sneak around my back. It'll be interesting, that's for sure." Jake flashed a geniune smile Rachel's way. It had been difficult to refer to the bloodsucker as a guy. He might be male but Jake considered the vampires thier own species. One that weren't usually refered to as guys. ___________________________________________________________________________ Word Count 377 Inspiration I'm listening to whatever is playing on itunes. ***** "Sneaking around your back?" Rachel said with a slight laugh as she stopped putting the things in the cupboard and turned to look at her brother. Raising an eyebrow slightly, Rachel crossed her arms over her chest as a smirk formed on her lips and she leaned against the counter with her hip and stared her brother. Although laughter was in her voice, it was obvious that she was serious about the words that left her lips as she asked: "Why would I need to sneak around behind your back Jacob? I don't need your permission to see a guy so I have no reason to sneak around behind your back."
Staring at her brother for another few seconds, Rachel then went back to putting away the last of the groceries before she turned to face her brother again. She knew that a lot of the younger guys were treating Jacob differently now. She knew that a lot of them seemed to act as if he was some important leader and even a few of the older people on the reservation were beginning to act different around him. She wasn't entirely sure of what Jacob had done to earn such a huge amount of respect but if he was letting it go to his head and if he thought that he could tell her what she could and couldn't do then he had another thing coming.
Beginning to get things together so she could get started on dinner, Rachel wondered why Jacob was suddenly anxious for Ace to come over for dinner. As she set down a plastic mixing bowl, Rachel glanced at Jacob before saying: "I know you want to look out for and everything Jacob but when I do invited Ace over for dinner I don't want you doing anything that will upset him. You know I won't do anything reckless and I'm not about to do anything stupid. There's no reason for you to get all over protective on me. I'll be fine and besides, I'm supposed to be the one who looks out for you. Not the other way around."
Smiling slightly at her brother, Rachel began to mix up the things that she would need to make a meatloaf in her plastic bowl. She really hadn't given too much thought to what to make for dinner that night but meatloaf was an easy thing to make and she really didn't have to think about it too much.

Jake inwardly groaned realizing he had said the wrong thing earlier when his sister started ranting. He should have just said something completly different. It would be so much easier if Rachel knew everything. So that he wouldn't have to pretend that he wasn't trying to protect her. It was all just a pain in the butt.
Rubbing the back of his neck, Jake stayed quiet. "I don't know Rach. Okay? I said something stupid." He just let it go after that, much preferring to leave it be then start into the whole, I'm trying to protect you thing. She might find it sweet but it just wasn't worth the arguments. Maybe Jake was getting too used to having people do what he asked or something like that. Rachel was older but he still felt a little protective over her.
Grinning, he leaned back as she told him she didn't want him to do anything to upset Ace, Jake thought, Just my presence might be enough to upset him.Shifters and vampires had this smell thing. They didn't smell good to each other. There might even be a fight at the dinner table. Rach would love that. Rachel had a point about not doing anything stupid or reckless but she didn't know about vampires. So really she didn't know that she was doing anything reckless or stupid.
"Sure, sure." He said, meaning about not upsetting him although he didn't plan on upsetting him. Just make his job easier. He put his hands up. "I know, I know. And we're supposed to look after each other. And that's just what I'm trying to do. So don't get upset at me. " Jacob didn't want her getting all mad everytime he felt the need to protect her, especially from vampires. She didn't know that risk but he did and he wasn't going to let his sister get hurt. ___________________________________________________________________________ Word Count 312 Inspiration I'm listening to whatever is playing on itunes.
