Embry was patrolling the area around the beach. The shifter had taken his time sniffing every smell that came across that wasn't familiar. The smells were not from vampire they were human, and he figured it was tourists wandering around the rez. Washington's leaves were turning colors and that brought in lots of tourists. The smells were human though and he was thankful. Vampires had came to the area and the pack now took turns patrolling just in case.
When Embry had went over his patrol he phased back and changed into a set of clothes he had stashed behind a tree. Embry walked from the forest onto the beach. The cool air felt like heaven against his hot skin. The ocean was calmer than normal, the surf crashing gently on the shore. Embry sat down on the wet sand and looked out towards the ocean deep in thought.

Alex had been at the beach for some time now, staring out at the ocean. She was never much of a swimmer. She could swim, she just didnt do so very often though she had her moments where swimming seemed to be all she wanted to do. When she was mad or just felt like escaping from everything, the ocean was the best place for that. The ocean water was deep and truly big, she coudn't help but feel like things just weren't as bad as they were when she was swimming. Problems seemed so small, almost non-existent.
She sighed lightly, picking up a small rock and tossed it into the water, watching as it skipped a few times before plopping down.
She was so caught in her thoughts she hadn't noticed anyone else on the beach. She was sitting a bit closer to the water and was only pulled from her thoughts when water hit the shore, splashing just a bit on top of her and she got to her feet, stepping back and sighed "Note to self, dont wear your favorite shoes that close to the water..." she huffed, kicking off her boots and set them down on a nearby tree stump befofe ruffling her hair and turned to walk further from the water.
Only then, as she turned around did she see the other person, she immediately recognized him...she'd seen him around school but never work up the nerve to talk to him. She didnt even know his name but she was fairly certain she was in at least one of his classes.

Embry had heard a girl say something about shoes and he smirked, leave it to a girl to worry about getting her shoes messed up when there was a whole world filled with demons and problems. Embry glanced over at where the voice came from and noticed that the girl looked familiar. Embry ran through a list of people he knew from the rez to Forks. There were more people he was familiar with in La Push, but he knew some from Forks. Mainly the ones he met while hanging around Bella and Jake.
When he glanced over at her again he remembered, it was from school. Embry hadn't spoken to her but Jacob had known who she was and that in turn gave Embry her name easily as if it was from his own memory. Embry stood up and brushed his jeans off, the sand was stuck to them and although it was a little wet and uncomfortable he didn't mind. Embry walked over to the girl and smiled
" Hey...your Alexzandra right? From La Push High? "
Embry resisted the urge to smack himself in the forehead..great he couldn't help thinking...now she thinks im a stalker. Embry was never too good at talking to girls.

Alex half jumped when he spoke, she hadnt expected him to so much as take notice to her being there. After a second though, she smiled and tucked some dark hair behind her ear, nodding her head lightly "Um, yeah..." she answered hesitantly. She was never good at talking to people, especially guys. She was terrible when it came to guys. She tried to think of his name. If he knew hers then it would make sense that she knew his as well "Um...Embry, right? I um- I think I sit behind you in history." she found it weird how quickly he recognized her almost immediately but then he was friends with Jacob...she knew that much and she knew Jacob -not as well as most but they'd spoken once or twice-
She looked at her shoes for a moment, they were still dying on the small log she'd set them on. She would nevr wear sway boots to the beach again.
She made a face as she realized the boots were probably no longer any good. Sway shouldnt get wet, at least not soaking wet like they were...it was why she always cleaned them with just a damp rag.

When Alexzandra had said yes Embry was momentarily relieved. Thankfully he wouldnt have to stumble through a long speech about seeing her around school, maybe a friend of a friend, and the inevitable blushing it would have caused. Embry ran a hand through his hair absentmindedly, it was still something to get use to. He had always had shorter hair, much shorter than Jacob's and now his hair was very closely cropped, but he liked it.
Embry nodded when she mentioned history. His thoughts instantly went to the seat behind his, and a certain girl whose smile always seemed to throw his concentration in a different direction, yea that was Alexzandra.
" Yea History. Mr. Moore..."
Embry was good at history, it was hard not to when you actually lived it. The legends that other kids learned then soon forgot he lived, memorized and studied.
" So...enjoying the beach?"

Alex smiled, walking closer to him so the two were almost side by side "Yeah, Mr.Moore...guy never shuts up..." she half chuckled, it was true. Half her time was spent trying not to fall asleep listening to his thirty minute long lessons on things her grams had already filled her in on when she was a kid.
He asked if she was enjoying the beach and she gave a small nod "Yeah, I am actually. It was boring sitting by myself...nice to have some company." she looked at him, her smile widening some. She knew the affect her smile had on some people. Some often commented on her smile, saying it wasn't something seen everyday. It was her mothers smile, bright, happy and perfect in every sense of the word.
"What brings you out here anyway?..." she asked in a small but curious voice.

Embry laughed a little when she mentioned that their teacher never stopped talking it was sad but true. Even during tests their teacher did nothing but talk about how much time they had left and that he expected good grades. Like anyone could concentrate with his talking.
When Alexzandra mentioned she liked the company Embry felt his face flush. While embry was use to the ladie's man Quil and Jacob's smooth talking to Bella constantly in his head, he himself was not a ladie's man. Embry had two girlfriends one was kindergarten and the other middle school. He hadn't even thought about dating since the change and definitely not with someone as beautiful as the girl in front of him.
When she asked what he was doing he shrugged casually and replied as soothly as he could. He hated lying, but it was necessary.
" Just hiking. I like coming to the beach after to cool off since it's never hot. Just one of the perks of living in La Push."
Embry smiled and glanced over at her
" What about you? Surfing, Cliff diving maybe?"
Embry glanced again at her and tried to smile at his lame attempt at a joke. She definitely didn't look like the type to go hiking and camping. Then again...appearances could be deceptive, he knew that first hand.

Alex bit the inside of her cheek slightly as Embry blushed, she wasn't going to lie, it was damn cute. She had never been the talkative type, this was probably the most she'd spoken to anyone in a long time. In fact she could only remember ever speaking in school just once, when she'd been called upon to answer a question. She didn't, of course, too many people staring at her.
While she wouldn't admit it out loud, she was a very good hiker and swimmer and a little more than an okay surfer but cliff diving was something she'd never attempt. She wasn't suicidal.
"I don't think cliff diving is for me. I tend to stay away from places that are well...twenty feet or more above the water." she chuckled once. She watched him and his friends cliff dive once, watching was enough to get her dizzy there was no way she'd actually do something like that, unless dared to. She smiled lightly "I actually came here to hide. Its the quietest place here, perfect place to write." she admitted, looking at Embry for a moment through her long dark eyelashes. Her light skin tone made it easier to tell when she was blushing, her cheeks had turned a very light shade of pink and she hoped that he wouldn't take notice. It wasn't something she wasn't a secret that she was shy and alot of people knew she liked to write but they didn't know a thing about what she wrote about.
She only hoped he wouldn't bring it up, she wasn't good with talking about what she wrote. Or reading what she wrote...or doing anything that involved talking, really. She was just a bad socialist.

Embry had listened to her and watched as her cheeks flushed with the most complimenting pink shade he had ever seen. The pink was soft and natural not like the cheap makeup that most girls wore. Embry laughed lightly when she mentioned that she didn't like to be high in the air. He couldn't blame her, when he was a normal human things like that seemed way too dangerous but when he changed things like that just weren't an issue. He wasn't as breakable as he use to be.
" It's not so bad really. Its a nice escape, to feel...free."
Embry sat up a little when she mentioned she liked writing. Embry was not a writer, and he never professed to be but he did like reading some poetry. They were far and few between but the ones he did liked he memorized. The other pack members made fun of him for the scriptures that sometime came into his mind, but he didn't mind.
" You write? Do you mind me asking what?"

"Right. Well, maybe for some people its perfectly fine but its really just, not for me....besides with my luck I'd probably end up hurting myself."
Alex could never understand why anyone would willingly jump off a cliff. The idea of that being considered a sport was completely ridiculous. Willingly risking your life for the sake of a minute or so of fun and thrills. It was downright crazy. Though she wouldn't hold it against anyone crazy enough to try something like that. She often thought about giving it a shot but every time she hiked up to the cliffs, she chickened out and ended up hiking all the way back down.
As he asked about her writing, she half smiled and nodded "Yeah um, I- I write..." she answered his first question just a second before he asked what it was she wrote. While she was hoping he wouldn't ask, she didn't have it in her to say she'd rather not talk about it so she smiled again "Um, songs mostly. Or poetry..." she answered honestly, pulling her hair back with her hands and pulled it into a loose ponytail. It had rained earlier today but it had since let up, the smell of rain was still in the air but the clouds had all but gone.

Embry smiled when she mentioned she would end up hurting herself. He couldn't help but think about Bella. That girl was cursed with clumsiness, and he found it kinda funny. The funnny thing was that she liked being around Jacob and the pack when they were hanging out which sometimes meant hiking. Jacob would always have to keep a steady hand underneath her just in case. Embry wondered if Alex was like that but then decided that it wasn't possible nobody could be as clumsy as Bella. He grinned playfully
" I wouldn't let that happen."
Embry noticed the small change in Alex. She seemed to be more nervous at the thought of talking about her poetry. Embry know how she felt. On one hand he wanted to hear her words, and thoughts but on another he was a guy..guys weren't suppose to like poetry.
" I'll make you a deal..if you read me something you wrote I'll tell you one of my favorite poems, but just to warn you they're really romantic, just get ready...you'll be swooning in no time"
He laughed playfully trying to get her to let her guard down a little.

Her lips pulled into another smile as he spoke. She doubted he could keep her from falling. It was nearly impossible. Even the simplest of tasks caused her to fall. She could recall one time, walking to the store and she fell almost face first, scraping her chin on the ground. Granted she was only seven but things havent changed much. She was still overly clumsy.
"Promise?..." her voice was light, playful. She looked at him once more, before biting her lip.
He asked her to read something she wrote, she almost felt like saying no and walking away but that wouldn't be very polite. Nor would it be nice "I dont know, um...i-its just- they're probably not that good." she muttered, hoping to find a reason not to read anything. She had her book with her though so reading something wasnt impossible if she wanted to, she just didnt want to read something and be laughed at later. Though she got the feeling he wasn't like that.
"Hm, you first...favorite poem." she moved so she was sitting on a nearby tree branch, which was laying in a way that made it seem like a bench. She looked at him, waiting.

When Alex asked him to promise he made a motion crossing his heart and nodded.
" I promise."
In human form Embry was fast, nowhere near as fast as a vampire but his reflexes were quicker than the average human. Embry hated that saying, Quil used it all the time but it made Embry feel like Yogi bear.. smarter than the average bear. Alex had looked like she wasn't going to read them but then she turned the tables on him and asked him to read first. Embry felt his heart pick up a little faster, and his hand starting to get clammy. It was one thing to bear your soul to someone after they had opened theirs but to go first was a whole other thing.
Embry thought about just calling the whole thing off, Alex was beautiful and beautiful girls didn't like normal guys like him and he was almost certain she would laugh at him. Embry took his time debating, but when he looked into her eyes he knew he didn't have anything to loose. Either she would laugh or he would get to hear her poems it was worth a shot either way. Plus he was almost certain he would never hear the end of it from his "brothers" if he chickened out.
"Alright, but...its sort of long so...I'll start close to the end at my favorite part. "
He glanced into her eyes before starting the poem. It was easy to recall, he had it memorized for years. It was Edgar Allan Poe and although Embry really didn't like the dude or his other poems, this one he did, and he began...
" But our love it was stronger by far than the love Of those who were older than we- Of many far wiser than we- And neither the angels in heaven above, Nor the demons down under the sea, Can ever dissever my soul from the soul Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.
For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes Of the beautiful Annabel Lee; And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride, In the sepulchre there by the sea, In her tomb by the sounding sea. "

Alex seemed to consider that for a moment and looked up at him with a smile and took a breath "Okay. I might consider going sometime in the near or distant future." she half chuckled, she was hoping for distant future. She would need to work up the courage to actually attempt smething so stupid. It wasn't like she had much to lose...well, except maybe her life if she fell or something.
As he agreed to tell her his favorite poem, she shifted slightly to look at him more, smiling.
Her face turned a bit brighter, her cheeks almost going red when he looked her in the eyes and she found herself looking down for a second, trying to gather her thoughts all the while listening to him reciting the poem. She knew before he could get to the third line who it was. She liked the poem as well. But she had never heard it out loud like that before. Sure she knew people who recited poetry but none had ever done so just for her.
She smiled, her eyes returning to his as he continued the poem and she waited until he'd finished before biting nervously on her lip "See? That guys a legend, there is no way my stuff could possibly top that..." she didnt seem to notice the small pout that formed on her lips "Well, after hearing that...I dont think I could read one of my poems, but I could sing one of my songs..."

Embry could feel the drops of sweat that ran down his back and were cooled by the cold ocean air. He had never been so nervous in all of his life especially over a poem and a girl. He had never in a millions years thought he would be in the position he was in now, reciting poetry on the beach to a beautiful girl. Things like that didn't happen to him, Quil maybe..Sam...but not him.
Embry laughed lightly
" I don't know about legend...he just got lucky...Im sure whatever you write is a million times better. Plus you didn't marry your 13 year old cousin...so you already have one up on him."
When she said that she would sing one of her songs Alex was surprised. He had never heard her sing and couldn't help but be curious. He smiled
" Alright, a deal is a deal, so whenever your ready...."
He leaned back with his arms behind him and waited for her to begin.
